My doctor gave me a prescription for DD to start taking vitamins with flouride. I am not sure how I feel about flouride...thoughts?

Yep we started them at 6 months too. I'd rather her have them- strong teeth are important.

We chose not to include flouride in ds's diet. Ped was fine with it.

Fluoride is important for them to have for strong healthy teeth so I didn't give it a second thought when the ped gave me the script at their 6 mon. check up. Not sure what the argument against it would be.

My ped said if we live in naussau we should supplement. We live in queens and use brita water. She said I don't need to give it.

Sorry to be such a downer, but Flouride is a dangerous neurotoxin. The CDC and the FDA continue to decrease the amount that is deemed 'acceptable'. Europe and Canada do NOT use flouride because of it's toxicity. Please, please do your research before giving your tiny, perfect daughter this chemical . It's never been proven to help keep teeth stronger either. Here's a You Tube Documentary. It's slow to start but really becomes informative after the initial interviews. All of the info can be confirmed in reputable literature.
ETA: Here is a website that is aimed at spreading the not so good news about flouride: Flouride Action Network.

Thanks so much for this info. Some of the books that I've read said it's OK and necessary to give .25 ml (I think that's the unit measure), but other references indicate it is a toxin. So torn to do the right thing for my DD.

There are no proven benefits for ingesting flouride...but there are lots of proven dangers. The only MILD benefit...and the term benefit is open for further research...comes from topical application to the tooth. Good Luck to you and your family as you weigh another important decision...as if being a Mom isn't hard enough ; )
