6 month old taking vitamins?
My ped gave me a prescription for vitamin drops for DD at her 6 month checkup. Anyone else's DC take vitamins? I just never heard of it.

My DD has been on the prescription drops since 6mos old. No issues with it at all. Can't hurt to supplement and I think there is flouride in it for her teeth.

DS's ped told me to start him on vitamins also at 6 months. I chose to get an over-the-counter brand instead of the prescription because I didn't want to give him fluoride.

DS had his 6-month checkup today and his ped told us to start vitamins also. I had never heard of this either but judging by the other posts, it's a 6-month-old thing!

DD2 just started the multivitamin drops with fluoride 2 weeks ago. We were using nursery water to mix her formula which has fluoride so the ped told us to switch and use a regular bottled water like Poland Spring.

DD started at 6m also but I'm pretty positive the fluoride vitamins didn't start until she turned 2. I could be wrong - or maybe they changed things over the past 2 years? - but I think 6m is too young for fluoride.

It's pretty standard practice, although the age usually varies between doctors and depending on whether the baby is BF or FF. My son is EBF and started OTC vitamins at 2 months and prescription fluoride ones at 6 months.

Why didn't you want to give fluoride?
It's a by-product of aluminum, and readily absorbed by the brain. It's also linked to Alzheimers and cancer.

Because DS is eating breast milk, our pediatrician started him on a supplement at 2 weeks to make sure he got enough vitamin D.
