Vent.. AJ kicked a boy

So AJ kicked a boy in the nuts

Her story is he kept kicking her under the table, messing with her leg, she'd told him to stop and he kept pestering her so she kicked back but he'd moved and his jewels got the blunt of it.

Was it wrong? Yes
Should she have told the teacher? Yes
Was it 'intentional' ? The kick yes, the nuts no
Was she spoken to? Yes
Did a note get written? Yes like 8 words
Did we get a call? Nope

So I get home and find out, we talk about it. Kicking is NEVER a good idea. blah blah but we are done. I have an unrelated issue for the teacher (I mean WAY unrelated) and sent her a note.

I got back one that was topic related then a 'side note' that said "I was way more concerned when she kicked a friend in the privates yesterday and told me she meant it!"

ok fine.. she messed up. Big deal.

I am getting a little pissy about it and thinking I want to write back and say

Well since she's under 10 years of age it really doesn't matter if it's intentional or not or if its his head, his penis or is mouth according to district rules. After all, its not like she got sexual satisfaction right? So I guess, this too will just go along with no big deal. And if his parents want her removed, let me go ahead and tell you no.

I mean for Pete's sake. Its not like when that girl GRABBED my daughter's crotch as a direct attempt to punish her. This was my kid kicking a boy's leg not meaning to AIM for his privates but yes, she admitted she did INTENTIONALLY kick him (being HONEST - which is more than I can say for that other brat).

So who cares?! I mean you (the school) didn't give two shits when it was my daughter being the one hurt, you want me to now feel somehow GUILTY because my daughter hurt a boy? I felt responsible as a parent at first but keep referencing it and I'm going to toss it back in your face! If you wanted such a big deal you could have CALLED me when it happened. Obviously you felt it wasn't worth a call just a quick handwritten note in her book, so why now the extra comment?

Sorry.. just venting.. she probably meant nothing but I'm still very hot under the collar about that twit who hurt my girl and the school's maddening shrug it off approach to the whole thing.

ETA: Oh and she felt horrible about it, said sorry to the boy and was all huggy on him. He's her best buddy and table partner. He didn't need to sit on a bag of ice like my daughter did!Chat Icon

The boy will think twice before kicking someone else again.. ;) but seriously, she expressed remorse and apologized which was very thoughtful of her. And as for the teacher, I would just let it go unless she brings it up again.

I think you are overreacting, I don't understand what you are venting about.

The teacher was (understandably) concerned that your daughter kicked a boy in his genitals.

Didn't you call the cops on a child that hit your daughter or something? Why does your daughter get a pass but other children need more punishment.

You sound very defensive.

As a teacher, I may be concerned if she said she kicked him and meant it, too. You spoke with her at home. Children are still learning, and she made a mistake. She's not suspended, she's not being ridiculed or ostracized.

What happened to AJ was more severe, but perhaps the fact that there are parents of a little boy who may or may not be thinking the same of your daughter as you did of the little girl who hurt her may be causing you to put up your defenses.

I'm really confused by your vent. Just a side note- you post a lot of pretty personal stories and vents involving your daughter, using her name, with her picture visible out in the open for the whole world to see. It probably isn't the best idea.

Re: Vent.. AJ kicked a boy

I'm extremely confused by your post. Your teacher told you that your DD intentionally kicked another child in their private parts and you think SHE is overreacting? Honestly, after all your previous posts this makes no sense at all. To me, an outsider, this sounds VERY similar to what your DD was on the receiving end of that you went so far as to call the cops. If this boy had kicked your DD in the privates my guess is you wouldn't be thinking it wasn't serious. If I were you I wouldn't say anything to the teacher except I am so sorry and I will talk to my DD. Otherwise, you will look like a nut and a hypocrite. If your DD kicked my DS in the privates I wouldn't care how sweet she was.

Re: Vent.. AJ kicked a boy

What did the teacher say that made you upset? Im a lil confused too. I mean your dd did mean to kick that little boy didnt she? She just happened to kick him by mistake in his private region cause HE moved.

What your dd did was fairly serious, but it sounds like you are downplaying it and being very defensive, which is coming off as hypocritical IMO.

Do NOT get snarky with the teacher. Take this seriously and make sure the teacher knows it will never happen again and you aren't taking it lightly.

I don't get why you're upset with the teacher. It sounds like you are making excuses for your kids behavior honestly and that you're harboring major resentment towards the school. How is this animosity going to help anything at this point?

Your child made a mistake kicking someone. Unfortunately for her (and him), he got hurt in the privates. But it is your child's fault. your kid was wrong to kick. I get that you get this. But I honestly don't think what was done to your child was that much worse. It was the same intention- to hurt another child. There's nothing "sexual" about either at this age in my opinion.

Vent.. AJ kicked a boy

I do agree that as a teacher myself I would have called home if it was an issue and not responded to a non related note and brought up the topic.. that would annoy me too..
BUT I think it was important that she did let you know, it may not have been an appropriate way to do it, but obviously your daughter is young and little kids kick and scratch, etc. it needs to be brought to the parents attention so the behavior can be corrected

So because his injury was not as "severe", it's OK?

Vent.. AJ kicked a boy

no.. I have more to the story.. the kid is fine.. she was honestly very upset about it. But it was NOT intentional. It was kids being kids. It was discussed and handled. No need for the teacher to bring it up. It upsets ME because when it happened to AJ it was intentional, painful and bullying and no one blinked.

Double standard

eta; Its been DAYS since the kick.. the boy is fine with her and she keeps saying sorry to him and she feels like she must now treat him like he's a glass ornament. She's been very diligent about watching her legs and kicking now. She didn't MEAN to kick him there but kick him away.

SO why days later with obvious improvement must the teacher bring it up?

Of course the teacher should have brought it up! You have a really twisted way of looking at things. Put yourself in the shoes of the other parent. Your daughters situation has nothing to do with her son yet you downplay what your kid did to hers and are annoyed the teacher mentioned it?

According to this it was intentional. So of course it needed to be addressed.

And I'm sure it was a big deal to the boy and his parents.
Just as the situation with your daughter was big deal to you.

Funny how you can see things differently depending what side you're on.

I definitely wouldn't push this issue any further.

Agreed!

OP keeps saying that your daughter kicked the boy there by accident. but she intended to kick him! Maybe not there, but if she chooses to physically attack, any resulting consequences or injuries are totally her fault.

I honestly didn't even understand the extent of your outrage with the first situation that happened with your daughter. Sexual harassment and calling the cops bc a young child grabbed another young child's crotch bc they were angry? I think that's a huge stretch and taking it way too far. And I truly think what your kid did is pretty similar.

Agree completely. The first situation was sooooo blown out of proportion and now that your on the other side you want to downplay it in this new situation. Honestly it sounds like YOU are the one with the double standard.

What was your note to the teacher about? Bc it was days after the incident, imo, it sounds almost like a snarky response to YOUR note. Was your note something that might have annoyed her?

I do agree that it's weird to get this side note days after the incident that seems long forgotten by the boy who got kicked. But I also think that you not being called in the first place does show that they took both incidents lightly- when ur daughter got hurt and when she hurt someone.
