I have a son with autism...he was definitely "off" before his MMR, he received all of his shots on time. My daughter is typical and has had all her vaccinations also. I know people with multiple unvaccinated kids who all have autism. It's genetics IMO.

Vaccinations

We stagger but I think my daughter is an anomaly. She had horrible reactions till almost all her vaccinations and we still don't know if it's because the first couple were lumped together. Our dr actually had us delay the mmr till she was 3 because the chicken pox shot sent her to the hospital. She has a great immune system but vaccines and dd did not mix. Her immune system tolerated the mmr so we are hoping that the side affects that she had are the thing of the past.

Because of her reactions I'm going to stagger baby #2 and her pediatrian agrees.

Vaccinations

It is a highly personal choice and you will get opinions from all over :) For my son, we did a slightly delayed schedule. I didn't feel comfortable giving him more than one shot at a time - particularly the combo vaccine that's like 5 in 1. I also chose to give all live vaccines individually and I'm glad because he had reactions to both MMR and varicella (horrible rash and high fevers for days). Again, this was my choice and my son was never in a daycare or nursery setting until after 2 when he was fully vaccinated. I will be following the same schedule with DD.

My advice would be to definitely vaccinate but do your research and speak to your doctor to do it in a way that feels right for you and your child.

I didn't follow any alternative schedule, not even for the MMR. Both of my kids were vaccinated according to schedule, neither had any issues.

No study has been able to prove vaccines cause autism, not even a significant causal or correlational relationship. I have read hundreds and hundreds of studies on it when going for my BCBA. Very very very weak studies, usually not published in notable medical or scientific journals even state further research is needed on the subject matter. Also, part of the reason there's a boom in dianosis was due to the broad spectrum in the DSM. The DSM (diagnostic manual) was just revised, less and less will be diagnosed with autism now based on the criteria. Aspergers isn't even a diagnosis and was removed, as well as PDD-NOS when it was revised

We followed the doctor's schedule and never had any issues.

I know so many kids with autism or development delays that haven't had the MMR.

A benefit is that he also has had zero reactions to every vaccine he's received bc he was older when he received them.

To play devil's advocate, you don't know that he hasn't had reactions because he was older. My son got his on time and had no reaction either.

Re: Vaccinations

I followed CDC

They have range of times to give a child a shot. That is what I worked with. It meant she got shots a lot but it also meant I felt more comfortable spreading out the shots. She still got more than one sometimes but never more than one of the big ones at a time (MMR, DtAP, Chicken Pox).

Some doctors HATE this.
Why?
I was told because they like their own schedules for easily filing with insurance, easily administrative keeping, easy supply ordering, easy record keeping.

Frankly I don't give a flying yahoo about any of that. My child isn't a statistic she's my child.

So I pushed and fought hard. I chose to follow CDC

Ironically no one cares after age 5.

True. DD got her shots on time and never had a reaction either. I know a ton of people in my family and friends who vacinnated on time with no reactions either.
I don't think the age they are when they get them is correlated at all to whether or not they get a reaction.
