US Post Office- holding mail on purpose??

Has anyone else noticed that the post office has been holding mail lately and not delivering it? Almost like they want to show that they NEED Saturday's deliveries, so they won't close?

It's not just because of the snow, it was happening before that. Some days I would get just junk mail, some not at all, then on Saturday I'd get a whole slew of mail?

My neighbor and my MIL both mentioned it to me, and I took notice.

My husband's former employer mailed his W-2 (from LI) on Friday, it is now Wednesday, and we still have not gotten it. My mother got a Save the Date on Monday, and I still have not gotten mine (I know I'm getting one).

Anyone else notice this lately?

I don't think they are holding it on purpose. I think mail is delayed lately due to the weather.

I haven't noticed any delays (it's also against Federal law to do it - which includes postal workers).

YES! We are not getting our circulars every week since we have this new person. DH asked him about it, the following 2 weeks we got them. Weather got bad... we don't get them!

We noticed we have a lot less mail when it's snowing, raining, etc....

I don't know about that, but I have noticed that it takes longer for some mail to get to us . This was the case even before the weather started getting bad.

Our mailwoman actually will only deliver mail to the mailboxes she can reach with her car, so if the plow dumps snow into the area that DH shovelled out, the mailwoman won't even attempt to deliver and will go to the next neighbor who snow blowed their mailbox out and deliver their mail. This has happened twice last week and we were livid.

At home (Brooklyn) we always have issues with the mail. We constantly get other peoples mail & we constantly find mail in our box at weird times of day; like at 6am, so I guess someone is getting out mail & putting it in the box.

At work (Manhattan) all the mail that was sent out the week of January 3rd was not received until the week of January 24th. It took 3 weeks to arrive at its various destinations. Some items where going from the East side to the West side. Crazyness.

It definitely has nothing to do with the snow or weather...because it was happening before the weather. Our mailbox is clear, and we get maybe 1 piece of mail a day (or nothing) with circulars and spam mail..but on Saturday, BAM 25 pieces of mail.

I have noticed a change in the delivery of our mail. It's been going on for several months. It used to be fairly steady but at least once a week we have no mail at all. Sometimes, though, that happens on Saturday so I'm not sure if it's being done on purpose.
I kind of took it as a sign that they don't need Saturday deliveries anymore. But there has certainly been a change in our delivery.

This used to happen to us when we rented a house in Long Beach. Constant problems of receiving our neighbor's mail, not getting any mail and then getting a whole bunch but with all different postmarks, etc.

One of the things I did find out was that my elderly neighbor was getting some of our mail and it would take her days to bring it over.

I complained, and it didn't get better. Then we moved, and our mail has been great. I would definitely put in a complaint every time it happens, if you're sure it has nothing to do with having your mailbox clear.

I always have a TON of mail on sats...glad I'm not the only one.

I have noticed a difference, and I've been wondering if I was the only one. I put a thank you card for my brother in a Farmingdale mailbox, and it took over a week to get to him...25 minutes away.

That's not the only delay though...I've absolutely noticed more.

Ive been noticing a delay in mail (like what you said...if i KNOW someone sent me something..its taken longer than normal to get here) - but Ive only noticed it since the bad weather started a few weeks ago.

My dad worked for USPS and I do remember him getting our own mail from the box and saying something like "No first class mail today" I think it all depends on the big trucks delivering the mail to the post offices.

There has been bad weather all over not just here.. Could your mail be coming from one of those places?

Lots of delays over here in the past 2 months - packages showing up super late - after I've already contacted people and then they've sent new ones. Haven't gotten circulars in ages, and there have been about 5 days in the past 3 weeks that we got no mail at all. I think you are on to something.

That's interesting!!!! I'm still waiting for a death cert. to come; It's past the 12 weeks. I called, though, and the gal finally fessed up that they were THREE WEEKS BEHIND!!! Bummer!!!! Mary

That's right mail is held but only the junk mail. 1st and priority mail has to go out that day while junk or parcel post can go out a few days later.
