Hospitals should make parents watch videos regarding babies and pets before discharge. That ferret should have been in a cage and that baby should have been in a room by himself (or in a room with his parents where no pets have access to him). Apparently some people are too stupid to figure that out.

This is disgusting. I am sick over this.

I remember I saw a girl on Dr. 90210 who, as a baby was drinking a bottle in bed and was bitten all over her face by the ferret.

I can't even imagine.

I agree with everyone else. Where the heck were the parents that they didn't hear their own baby scream like that after having his FINGERS chewed off. OMG.

I'm devastated for the baby.

This is disgusting. I agree, they didn't hear him screaming until the 7th finger? Something isn't right. On another note, I DESPISE ferrets. They are disgusting, giant rodents. Why anyone would want one as a pet is beyond me. There was a story on one of those plastic surgery shows where a ferret got into a baby's crib and ate the little girls' face. Chat Icon Those animals are disgusting.

I think thats taking things a little too far. I bet there's plenty of people on this board, including me, who have had ferrets for pets. Disgusting? No. That may be your opinion and that's fine. But that really has nothing to do with the ferret and the baby. Dogs have attacked babies, does that make them disgusting too? Do you not understand why people would have them for pets also?

This is such a horrible story. I would hope someone would look further into this because some things just dont add up. So many Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon for this baby!

This is the most horrible story I've heard... please do not use these kind of titles for posts on parenting ... it should come with warning!

I wanted so much to report this post because it made me so ill and I have been shaking and crying all day, and growing up in NYC and everything I've seen in my life, I'm not easy shaken.

Please, consider it for the future, or please change the title I can't bear to see it, I'm going to log out of LIF for the day hoping it will go away tomorrow. Chat Icon

I changed the title of it. But - just because you don't want to see it doesn't change the fact that it happened. If anything I think the jaw dropping title promotes awareness so something like this can never happen again.

I'd like to know what kind of drugs these ashholes were on to not have heard their baby screaming until the ferret was eating his SEVENTH finger.

Agreed, and to kill the ferret instantly by throwing it across the room rather than attend to a wounded child... Something just does not sit well with me on this one.

ITA

Something sounds very odd about this story.

Seeing as the ferret was probably still chewing ... gut reaction was to grab that thing and toss it.. violently.

I see no issue with that. Its not like you say "off lil ferret, let go, ok thank you" and then treat the baby.

Heat of moment type thing

Poor baby tho.

I agree about 7 fingers gone before they got there seems a bit much. This is why I couldnt do CIO and why I coslept

I dont see what is funny about what she wrote.Chat Icon She didn't like the thought of allowing her DC to CIO. I have read stories where people were letting their DC CIO and something bad was actually happening (DC vomited all over, another story on Oprah the DC was getting strangled by the infant monitor cord).

I don't see what is funny about what she wrote at all. Chat Icon

I apologize, I dont mean to offend - its just so dramatic.

I dont think anyone does CIO and then just leaves the house - so I don't get the connection.

But I see what you are saying!

Kinda see where you were going with it, but I should have clarified I have two cats who have free reign and aren't declawed.

The new mommy thing for me did not allow me to sit there and let my child SCREAM for anything without me checking on her.

The whatifs were too big

But let me clarify.... THIS story did not give me pause to CIO. The idea of ANIMALS and the idea of RANDOM crying.. those two things gave me pause.

Obviously I dont CIO and its not a decision I made recently because of this story.
