Update on my furniture delivery disgusting experience-- LONG, sorry!

For those of you who missed it, here's the link (warning, it's SUPER long) LINK

So, I called JCP to complain on Monday as I mentioned. They obviously called the furniture company, who called me on Wednesday. The woman I was dealing with was annoying and not very helpful. She pretty much asked me if my floor is still damaged (which it's not, thankfully...had it been carpet not hardwood it would have been) and pretty much wanted that to be the end of the issue since nothing is damaged. I obviously wasn't having that Chat Icon so I asked why else she was calling, were they going to compensate us (again, I am SO not the type to want to be compensated when a little thing goes wrong, but this was a HEALTH HAZARD and handled completely wrong on many levels by the guy Chat Icon ), she tells me that he's been fired....I tell her I obviously never wanted that to happen, I was sorry to hear that....obviously we were concerned about his finger (we helped him twice while he was here), but she says we weren't the first to complain about him. Again, I feel badly that he was fired (but I'm not sure I necessarily believe her anyway, who knows if he was really fired). She asks how much we want to be compensated, I tell her I have no clue, it's not about the $$, I'm not comfortable deciding that, don't they have a procedure for compensation? She says she'll call me back the next day (Thurs).

I don't hear from her Thursday or by 1pm on Friday Chat Icon I call her back this afternoon. She pretty much tells me "how's $50?". I tell her "absolutely not", we paid $220 for delivery and assembly...not only did he BLEED all over 2 rooms of my house resulting in over 2 hours of disinfecting that we had to do, but they put the bed together WRONG so DH had to disassemble it AND reassemble it, so they did NOTHING besides create 2 headaches (and the health hazard!). She tells me "well, the driver is going to have to pay for this"....I am no heartless beyotch, and I convey that I think that is ridiculous, that the company should be responsible for their employees, that I feel badly enough that he was "fired" (she reiterates that this wasn't the first complaint against him) that I certainly don't want him to have to pay for it out of his own pocket (though, truthfully, he FULLY knew he was bleeding all over the place and continued to try to get the job done AND he tried to scurry out of here before we noticed blood all over the floor). At this point I'm really feeling like she knows I feel badly for the guy so I won't follow through with making "him" pay for it. I tell her it's BS that they make the delivery guys fork it out of their pockets, I'm surprised JCP does business with a company like this, blah blah blah. She tells me she'll have to speak to her supervisor b/c I pretty much tell her that the delivery company needs to fork over the refund, not the fired guy. She SWEARS she'll call me back today.

I know they close at 5 (from a previous conversation I had with her)....4:45pm I still don't hear. Again, basic customer service-- follow through Chat Icon I couldn't call so DH calls. She tells him the same crap, he tells her he feels like she only mentioned the guy having to pay b/c they didn't think we'd follow through with the claim then...he says she really tripped over her response/denial. She tells him "well, that's our procedure, you'd have to take it up with JCP if you're not happy with this".

DH calls JCP, a new guy reads up on the incident and admits he's disgusted and can't believe what happened. He tells DH JCP could only refund us 50% of shipping (we paid $220 for shipping) b/c that's how much we paid JCP (and therefore we indirectly paid the delivery company the other 50%)...DH says that's not acceptable, if THEY (JCP) need to fight with the delivery company to get reimbursed for the other 50%, that's their problem, not ours since we paid JCP entirely. The guy agrees....so, therefore, we're getting a FULL refund of the delivery fee ($220).

Ugh, so annoying & frustrating. As nice as it is to save that amount of $$, you can bet that I would have gladly paid that money (and even double that Chat Icon ) to not have a million blood droplets in 2 bedrooms of my house. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

So, JCP, good customer service in the end. This trucking company (based in NJ)-- a DISASTER, trying to make us feel guilty/swindle us. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Wow!!!!! I'm thrilled you got the refund, and i have to say the only people who really handled this beautifully are you and DH. JCP should have refunded you with your first phone call, not pushed you off to the shipping co. And the shipping rep you talked to is talking out of her arse, if they "fired" the guy they can't go after him for an expense out of his own pocket. Even withholding the amount from his final check would be illegal and she knows that. Given the gravity of your situation she should have connected you to the supervisor instantly.
But again since JCP contracts out to the shippers, this is truly THEIR problem not yours and DH's. Good for both of you for keeping your composure!!!!

It's such a shame that you had to go through all of that ...Having worked in customer service for many years you are basically informally "trained" to offer the minimum and the squeaky wheel really does get the oil...That's why I really was so happy to get out of the field- The "Libra" in me did not like the injustice

Glad you at least got that delivery fee refunded to you Chat Icon
