Andrea-I am so sorry!! Feel secure in knowing that evem at 28 weeks the prognosis is great especially for little girls. They are such fighters. I hope that she stays in a lot longer but if not everything would be OK. I'm sure you remember TwinMama's girls were born at 29 weeks and today are 3 yrs old and happy and healthy. Bets of luck-my thoughts are with you and your family!!!

I sent you an FM. The exact same thing happened to me when I was pg with my DD - my water broke at 28 weeks.
I was able to make it to 35 and a half weeks with a perfectly healthy baby that went straight to the nursery (no NICU)!

I just wanted to share this with you -- my cousin was born at 28 weeks and weighed a little under two lbs. While it was scary and she spent many weeks in the NICU -- she is a happy healthy girl who is going to be turning 12 this year.
Girls are fighters and you are in great hands. Try to stay positive -- I know it is hard but it will help make everyone feel better!

I was at Roosevelt Field w/ DD on Wed, walked into Sephora & felt a little "gush". Freaked out, called Dr., went to his office & he told me what I didn't want to hear...had a spontaneous rupture (water broke) at 28 week.
I drove over to Huntington Hosp, but was only there for a bit since they rushed me here to LIJ Manhasset b/c of their amazing NICU.
They do not know why this happened, esp. since I am in good health & never had a single pg. complication.
I am now pretty much on bedrest here @ the hospital until this little girl decides she wants to come out. She is moving around lots, her heart & everything else look great, but my fluid is low.
I have never been more freaked out in my life.
I could really use some good thoughts & prayers that out little girl can cook a little longer & is born healthy. She could come today, a week, a month... there's just no telling.
On top of this, LIJ is not letting ANY children in the hospital b/c of this stupid swine flu outbreak, which means I can't even see Alexandra while I'm here.
My i-net access here is limited, but I will try to update when I can.

my water broke at 24 wks---i woke up with amniotic fluid wetting my bed.
i was put on bedrest and made it until 32.5 weeks. my DS spent 5.5 weeks in the NICU. he is a very active 2.5 yr old with a few allergies, and still measuring on the "small" side, but you couldn't tell this had happened to me by looking at him!
hang in there. it will drive you mad not being able to be out and about, but it's the best for your DD... just take it easy. i know it'll be hard though being away from your other DD. when i was going through this with DS, i didn't have other children.
will keep you in my thoughts!

Just to ease your mind a little, my cousin recently gave birth to twins at 26 weeks (they were just over 2lbs) and they are doing wonderfully now!

I am so sorry you are going through this...I fully understand how frightening it is.
But, you do know that you are at a great hospital with a great NICU and even if she comes early, she will most likely be fine. My friends daughter was born at 26 weeks 14 years ago and she is an intelligent, healthy teenager now.
I'm sorry you can't spend any time with your daughter right now, but I'm sure she understands and you can talk to her on the phone as much as possible.
You are in my prayers and I hope your baby stays where she belongs for a good long while....
