i am currently 27w3d...still in the hospital after 3 1/2 weeks
I haven't been able to come on in a few days so I figured I'd give an update:
things had been stable at the hospital with the meds they had me on for contractions...up until this past Wed (27w1d) when my water broke
so now i am on a ton more meds and being even more heavily monitored. They had me on magnesium which is NOT fun! luckily they have stopped it now. I am on antibiotics to prevent the babies or I from getting infections now that the water has broken. I was on nephetipine (sp?) for contractions until last night when I had a really bad reaction and my heart rate shot through the roof and had to be on oxygen until my hb was back to normal.
basically doctors are trying to keep the babies in as long as possible so it's really just a matter of every hour and every day we get through the better. They say since my water is broken, with the meds the average time for woman to keep the babies in is for another 7 days...but at the same time it could be any time now. Hoping we can keep them in as long as possible and at least get further than the 28 week mark. However, If there is the slightest sign of infection or if the babies go into distress they will not try to wait and I will have an emergency c-section.
they have already sent a doctor from the NICU to prep us for what to expect bc the babies will end up being in there for several weeks to a couple months. It was good getting the info but also scary at the same time.
I am trying to remain calm/positive but it's still extremely scary and stressful thinking about how little the babies are still. As of this past monday, they were 2lb3oz and 2lb2oz. I just want them to be safe and healthy!
WOW Kel, im so sorry youre going through this... tons of prayers that the babies are ok...
i had no idea that after your water broke you could still keep the babies inside...
thanks ang!
i didn't realize either but the main concern is the risk of infection now that the sack is broken which is why I am on the antibiotics. Also, they want to see if the babies go into distress from loss of fluid...but so far everything has been okay with the babies. just praying it stays that way!
I'm praying for you and those little babies to hang on. Get to 28 weeks! I know a set of twins and a singleton born at 28 weeks and they are all healthy, happy brats now! So just try to hang on tight! You are in my thoughts and prayers!!!
