same for my ectopic...my numbers would go up a little, then down, then up and so on. they did a sono in the beginning and saw "nothing" in my uterus which makes sense since the pregnancy was in my tube! by time i was in pain, they were able to see the ectopic in my tube and that's when i had surgery. my pregnancy tests also were negative, positive, negative....i was all over the place. i hope none of this is the case for you

With a first beta of 5.3 I don't think its an ectopic pregnancy....I am assuming you are having a chemical pregnancy..I am sorry....
I was in beta hell for almost 2 weeks so I know excctly how you feel right now....
Did you have a medicated cycle? IUI? IVF?...how many DPOs are you?? if it is early you might get a very low beta and then continue to have a healthy pregnancy but if you are 14DPO (or more)then I would think it is a chemical pregnancy..

So you've only had two betas since wednesday? I was in every other day. In a healthy pregnancy, your beta should be doubling (or there about) every 48 hours. its not the number itself that is important its what happens every 48 hours thats important. While an increase from 5 to 44 IS a good increase, its what happened between the first and second betas that I would be wondering about. You should have a better idea today at your third beta. (You'd be looking for a number around 80 or more).

Yeah!!! That is a GREAT doubling time!!! In answer to your question...yes....numbers typically go DOWN with a chemical. That is not to say that a chemical can not still happen as I think they define anything before confirmation via u/s a chemical. This is GREAT news!! You simply just might have a late implanter.
Take a look at the two links I provided below. One calculates doubling time and the other is beta ranges. Based upon three days between betas...wed- sat..I calculated that your doubling time is 23.4 hours which is GREAT!! I then went to the betabase website and looked at the range of doubling times for your start beta number for successsful pregnancies...as you will see...you have an average number for a successful single baby pregnancy!! Check my figures.

with chemicals the numbers go down. With ectopic they usually go up and down or don't double properly.

This is not true...I had a chemical pregnancy which ended at 7 weeks...my numbers were doubling then not then doubling again (it was not an ectopic)....we never saw a heartbeat....
Chemical pregnacy is a pregnancy that ends before seeing a heartbeat (just a fancy term for an early misscariage)...
To the original poster, you might have a late implanter! see what your numbers are today.....many things can happen! GL

With the chemical... did your numbers go down at all? usually with a chemical the numbers may get high enough to get a BFP on a hpt (and yes they may double and then not but yet still increase a little bit), but they then usually drop down. In order for them to drop, they have to rise at some point.
Eventually, you get what appears to be like your period and usually a BFN would ensue... because the numbers dropped. It is of course also somewhat dependant upon how far along you are in the first case.
I wouldn't say it's NOT true, it just might not ALWAYS be the case. I know a lot of people who had chemical's where this was the case. And by a lot of people... everyone I know who's had a chem pretty much had numbers that dropped in the end and AF came.

ive had two chemicals and the most the beta went up in 2 days was 4. ive never had a rise like that.
