UPDATE and another ? Formula for EBF baby?
I need to start supplementing a bit as I'm going back to work in a few weeks and I can't seem to pump enough. DD1 took Enfamil no problem after being EBF for 6 months. I've tried formula 2-3 times with DD2, and although she takes it fine, when I nurse her a few hours later she gets VIOLENTLY ill. I've tried regular Similac (RTF) and Enfamil (powder).
Can anyone recommend a formula that is better for a breastfed baby? I have a call into the peditrician, but wanted some first hand experiences too. I don't want to experimnet with too many b/c really she gets VIOLENTLY ill. I had read Gerber Good Start is more whey based and less protein based so maybe that will help?
Any ideas?
TIA!!!!
UPDATE: Thanks everyone! The pediatrician called back and suggested I try Gerber Good Start "Protect". Apparently it's a "transition" formula for EBF babies.
He didn't mention a possible milk protein allergy, but now you all have me worried. If she had the allergy wouldn't my BM affect her as I do consume dairy??

Re: Formula for EBF baby?
we gave ds enfamil newborn powder. I have always had a supply issue and that seems to work.

Formula for EBF baby?
Maybe try the gentle enfamil formula? My ped prefers enfamil to the others.

I believe you can try mixing formula with breastmilk instead of giving them at different feedings. You will use 1/2 as much BM at a time. Maybe after you do that for a bit, when you have to give formula only, the baby will be better adjusted to it.

Re: Formula for EBF baby?
I was in the hospital for two weeks six weeks after giving birth. I had no clue I was going to be in the hospital so I didn't have a supply of pumped milk so I had no choice but to give formula. At first, we did regular enfamil infant but was spitting up and had horrible diaper rashes. Ds 1 has a milk protein allergy so I figured that ds 2 could possibly have one as well and that the milk based formula was causing these problems. Dh called the ped and they suggested putting him on alimentum and it did the trick.

Re: Formula for EBF baby?
It sounds like she could have a milk protein allergy- get her tested, you might only be able to use soy or specially formulated formulas.

Re: Formula for EBF baby?
The same thing happened to my cousin. Her DD ended up having a milk protein allergy. Try Nutramigen and see if that helps

Re: UPDATE and another ? Formula for EBF baby?
I have been following your post b/c I am about to start needing to give DD formula. She does have a milk protein allergy ( which I believe she has outgrown), but you are correct - if she had an allergy you would have known about it. I had to eliminate dairy from my diet in order to be able to BF her. So I wouldn't worry about that.
But I will have to look into that formula!!!

Re: UPDATE and another ? Formula for EBF baby?
I would 100% recommend Gentlease. My ped. told me that although it is not the closest formula to BM (enfamil) it was a great choice for supplementing b/c it is has less lactose in it and the protein in the formula is broken down so its better on their tummys. I did this with DS and it was fab.

Both of my ds have a milk protein allergy and I ebf and they were never affected by my dairy intake. I do not eat lots of dairy so I'm not sure if that is why but neither had bloody stools or any other tell tale signs until ds one started solids and ds two had to be put on formula for two weeks like I stated above. I know most moms have to eliminate dairy from their diet as well but it wasn't the case for me.
