Water and Formula to a EBF baby

I had to go away over night last week and my 6 month old DS is EBF. I did have a supply saved however he developed a milk protein allergy and I couldn't use what I had saved. I only needed him to drink 1 bottle of formula (nutramagin) a day for 3 days so I would have enough while I was gone. He refused the formula. Spit it at me, pushed the bottle away and got so upset he was choking. Thankfully I ended up drinking enough water to increase my supply so I didn't need to supplement after all.
I plan on BF until a year but I am concerned if I have to stop for some reason, would I be able to? Did this happen to anyone else? I know it smells terrible so it probably tastes worse. Also, I did give it to him when he was starving because the Ped said he will have to drink it cause hes hungry but apparently not.

Also, I tried giving him water today and he refused that as well. It was cold so maybe it needs to be room temp?

I also EBF my DS and he developed a milk protein allergy. Unfortunately it was severe to where he couldn't even have my milk. So he was forced to drink only similac allimentum formula. He refused it at first and spit it out, but it's all he could have so eventually he had no choice but to drink it. He didn't like it at first, but he got used to it. They will drink it if they're hungry enough.

Water and Formula to a EBF baby

I had this happen with DD2 she was about the same age, mix some breast milk with formula if you can spare it. Like, if you pump 4oz for a feeding, do 2oz formula/2oz bm for feedings and introduce it gradually.

Re: Water and Formula to a EBF baby

we had a HORRIBLE time getting my dd to take a bottle when i went back to work. she basically starved herself for 10-12 hours each day while she was away from me for the whole first week. she screamed, cried, completely refused the bottle- it was horrible! we tried everything. i spent a fortune on every bottle on the market. my ped told me that "i know it sounds bad but there are no anorexic babies and she will eventually eat." and she finally turned a corner and now it is a complete non-issue and she will take formula and/or BM no prob, regardless of the temp. water she still doesn't love though.
