Undershirts - am I crazy?

So sometimes I don't know what's normal, and what's a crazy product of growing up in a very italian household... When it's long-sleeve season, do you guys put undershirts under your dd's shirt? I ALWAYS had to have one on growing up. It was like a law. And now that dd is outgrowing the onesie undies and she likes to try the potty, I can't find regular undershirt tee-shirts. Yeah, so this is a 2-part question! Do you do undershirts ( or a, I nuts?) and where do you buy them? 18 mos. or 2T she would need...Tia!

Undershirts - am I crazy?

Growing up I don't ever remember wearing an undershirt. Maybe I did but just don't remember.

As for dd I never use them. Should I be? Lol

My kids have never worn one. My MIL always buys them and they sit in the package never used.

We use them sometimes. I am not Italian but I always had to wear one when it was cold out growing up. If it's cold and DD is wearing a thin long sleeve t-shirt I use them, or under sweaters (I always feel even soft ones can be itchy). I don't use them for daycare though because they keep it WARM in there (in the winter). DD would pass out if I layered her there.

I'm a product of a crazy Greek household! I was always bundled up. I wasn't even allowed to go barefoot in our house! Chat Icon
To answer your question yes I will most likely get undershirts for DS in the dead of winter, mostly because my house is very drafty.
I just saw they carry them at Carters.

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?

My dd will be 2 in November and all last winter and most of spring she always had a onsie under everything, even when she was a a few months and she had on a long sleeve onsie I also put a short sleeve onsie underneath, crazy I know....so this fall she will be 22 months I decided she is too big for onesies so I got spaghetti strap tank tops from oldnavy so she can wear them under things...I feel like she still needs some sort of undershirt....oldnavy sold them in 4 packs

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?

Like you I too grew up in an Italian and family and the undershirt was a must.

My DS is going to be 4 and he always wears an undershirt once the weather gets cool. In the beginning of the fall and end of the spring seasons, he wears wife beater tank tops Chat Icon

Hanes actually makes them for toddlers (2t) and I find them in Raindew of all places. I think I have found them at Target before but they either sell out quickly or do not stock enough of them because I can never find them when I need them.

Yes, to the poster who said Carters sells them. I bought the ones for last winter there.

Undershirts - am I crazy?

My DS will be 4 in October and I still have him wear undershirts in the winter. I just think it makes him a bit warmer. I know I usually have 2 shirts on as well in winter. Layering is good! I usually buy Carter's brand.

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?

Yes we always had one on growing up (same crazy Italian household )
My mom buys my girls a ton of undershirts for the fall/winter and ALWAYS checks to make sure they have one on. If they don't she makes my life hell. Like something terrible will happen to them if they lack a thin tank top underneath their long sleeve shirt lol

Do we have the same mother? Chat Icon
It's like one of the 1st things she does when I drop my kids off in the mornings. She takes off the jackets and then pulls the collars out to make sure there's a shirt under there. If not I hear 'wheres the undershirt? It's cold out!' then she goes to her stock pile and proceeds to put one on them. lol

You're not crazy, but no, I have never put an undershirt under a long sleeve shirt. I feel like if DS is cold, he'll just tell me!

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?

I don't. I have if it was cold out and they weren't wearing jackets in the car yet. My mom is obsessed with onesies and wonders why I don't use them. I will still use them if DD is in a nekkid phase and starts taking off her diaper.

Well, I guess the crazy Italian traditions continue !!!
We always had under shirts when we were little and now both DDs wear them . It is one of the first things my crazy Italian mother looks for at drop off once October hits !!!
I buy them at Carter's, target , kohls and Costco !

Undershirts - am I crazy?

My mother ALWAYS had me in an undershirt, to the point that when I had DS, she asked me why I never had him in one (DS sweats in the winter, lol). So yes, to my mother it was also law.

I think you can get them at target or kohls or probably even carters.

DS will be 4 in November... the only time he wears an undershirt type shirt is sometimes in the fall/winter when i'll do the layered look. i'll put one under a short sleeved shirt to make it long sleeved lol
I found some at carters, so check there. I ordered them online, so it might be an online only thing...

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?

Maybe it's a crazy European thing? Crazy Portuguese family here and I ALWAYS had to have one on growing up. I typically wear a tank under my shirts now! LOL. I blame my mother. Chat Icon

Re: Undershirts - am I crazy?

My boys always wear undershirts in the winter - it helps keep them warmer since most shirts are loose.
