Umbilical stump
DD is exactly 1 week old. Her umbilical stump fell off today. Found it in her onesie. Her belly button looks a little herniated. It's not flush against her skin it sticks up a little. I don't remember DD1 having that. Is it normal? Does it flatten in on its own? I know some umbilical hernias require surgery when they're older.

Re: Umbilical stump
DS has an umbilical hernia and he's 19 months old. Our ped said in very rare cases they need to do surgery, but not to even worry about it. Most of the time it goes in on it's own. It may take 3-4 years, though.

Totally normal. DD had an umbilical hernia until about 6 months old.

Umbilical stump
My DS has an umbilical hernia (he's 22 months) and the ped said they mostly clear up on their own. Doesn't bother DS at all. They're more normal than not I think.
My cousin had a huge one and it cleared up as well without surgery.
