Re: Ultrascreen results

I feel for you, what a heartwrenching situation to be in.. Why not elect for a CVS, you can have it done from 11 weeks until 13 weeks? GL

Re: Ultrascreen results

I am having this same dilema.. I went yesterday and had a long talk to w/my ob.. He did say cvs is a higher risk of m/c so her recommended I wait the extra 3 weeks and get the amnio.. I havent done any testing yet at all I am only 8w5d.. But he was telling me that because of my age I am going to come up w/bad odds anyway..I always said I would never do an amnio no matter what but now DH got freaked out and is insisting on it.. I know how you feel.. But age factor is what is giving us all false positive I think.. Can you see someone else ang get another opinion..

Re: Ultrascreen results

I had a similar situation, but with Down Syndrome coming up abnormal. I went in to do the amnio at 16 weeks and the ultrasound tech said "let's do the sonogram part first, there is a lot we can tell at this point" (meaning an early Level 2). They did not see any genetic markers for downs so I opted not to go ahead with the amnio. Maybe you could do something like that?

FM if you need someone to talk to!!

Re: Ultrascreen results

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this stress. We went through something similar after my AFP results came back. I'm also "older" While my husband and I were DEADSET against doing an amnio after all we went through to get pregnant in the first place, we decided in the end it was the right thing do for just peace of mind so we would know what we had to deal with. We also elected to move up the Level II sono to 18 weeks from 20 and make our decision based on the findings from the Level II. Like I said, we did elect to have teh amnio done. If you have any quesstions please feel free to FM me!.

Re: Ultrascreen results

First I want to thank you everybody for all your prayers and good wishes. I can't tell you how much it means to me and DH. I'm sorry I didn't update sooner, but I've been so busy with work and DD that I haven't even really been on the computer in over a week. So finally, here's the update:

On the advice of several women here I called my doctor on Friday the 14th and asked about having a CVS done. He gave me the number to Schneider Children's Hospital Genetics Center, which is where he would send me to have it done. I called them and they said I was too far along (I was 13 weeks 3 days at the time and they only do them between 10 and 12 weeks). So I called my doctor back on the following Monday and told him. He told me to call them back and ask if they can do the amnio earlier. He said that in his office they don't do it before 16 weeks, but that since the other place is for high-risk patients, they may do it sooner. So I called them back and they said that they do start doing them at 14 weeks, but by the time I got in for an appt. with a Genetic Counselor (which is required before they will do an amnio or a CVS) and then had the amnio, I could already have it done at my own doctor's office.

So, I'm keeping my appt with my own OB for Dec. 3rd. I just hope they will do the FISH test so I can get the preliminary results right away.

So it's back to wishing, hoping and praying for me for now. The saddest part right now is that a part of me I think will not let myself bond with this baby yet. I guess because of all the trouble I've been having so far, and it has all been so incertain. I just hope I get answers soon.

I know what you mean about all the uncertainty. I felt the same way.

As far as FISH results, TELL them you want the FISH results done. They will take extra fluid from you for the FISH results. I was adament about it, and didn't care if my insurance covered it or not. They told us it would be out of pocket about $200 (but it looks like my insurance did end up covering it). But IMO, it would have been $200 well spent in order to have the peace of mind right away instead of having to wait almost 2 weeks for the results.

Re: Ultrascreen results (minor update)

I had a feeling you might be too far along for a CVS but the amino is coming up soon so hang in there.

INSIST on the FSH results- I did with both of my CVS tests since I had a pregnancy that was a trisomy. They called me within 3 days both times.
