Ugh LIPA and Keyspan
Last year at this time we had just closed on the house. We were renovating and not living there. Our energy bills were ridiculously high because they were going by the past owner's previous usage.
Now, our bills are ridiculously low becauase they are going by last year's usage - when the gas and electricity were both shut off..
When will the day come when we don't have to call them with our meter readings? Its so frustrating!

If you set up an online account with LIPA you can enter your meter readings online.

Yeah, we tried this but the numbers are so far off of what they "expect," the online thing doesn't allow our entries. So we have to call.

Sure it does. There is a section that says "Enter your Meter Reading".
Click on it and you enter your meter reading. It even tells you how to read the meter.

Re: Ugh LIPA and Keyspan
Also if you say you clicked that link and it doesn't accept what you put in I would so b*tch them out over the phone.
I would be like, "Why do I have to call when I can do this online?"

The OP is correct. If your numbers are so far off as to be entirely inconsistent with the prior usage they show, the system rejects them and you have to phone in the numbers.

Damm that's pretty stupid of them.
If they tried to pull that with me I would tell them i'll phone it in once. And then i'll say if they don't let me enter the stuff in online, they can come read the meter themselves from now on.
