Ugh... base moulding dilemma

So we had all of moulding, base, crown, chair, casings picked out. We were getting our base moulding in wood because the guy at Dykes said it held up better than MDF-- and especially with kids, etc., we are better off. Same for chair-- but the crown, we were doing MDF since the likelihood of that getting a beating is slim to none.

ANYWAY, they don't have my base, or even another comparable one in Pine. I need them within days to install so I can't special order.

Does anyone have MDF and regret not getting Pine? I have no clue what to do!! I hope they have my third choice, even though it's not as high as I wanted, but I still think it will look ok.

I don't have base moulding as MDF but I have other moulding features that are MDF - if they're going to be painted white - no difference.

I regret my MDF base A LOT! With 2 kids, a 75lb dog and me being a cleaning freak it just has not held up as good as real wood. We just redid our kitchen and did all wood base because we learned from our mistake. My parents did it throughout their first floor and hate it too. MDF is fine for other moldings--we have it all over, just not base. I agree with the guy at Dykes 100%.

we just did pine for all the base and crown. it actually came out cheaper then MDF. if you have time, you should check out kleets lumber yard in huntington. we didn't have to special order and they have a huge selection!!!
