Two kids, bigger car needed?
I don't have a second child yet, but hopefully in a year I will. I'm at the end of my lease and trying to decide what to do. I have a Nissan Versa hatchback, 4 door, GREAT condition, super low miles, but a VERY small trunk.
The trunk: I can get the umbrella stroller and about 2 bags in at once. To get our large UppaBaby stroller in, I have to take the cargo cover off and stand it upright. When I drive it bangs the back glass window.
One option is to extend the lease on my Versa one more year then buy it. It will be very cheap then. Or turn in the Versa for something larger, but still on the cheaper side. I'm looking at a Jeep Patriot or Mazda CX-5. I prefer something more basic, without all the bells and whistles. My car will only be used to get me to and from the LIRR, for weekends and the rare family, drivable vacation.
As much as I love driving little cars I think I'm going to need the trunk space, right? Especially if I will have two strollers or the UppaBaby with Jump seat to act as a double stroller.
Any advice? Do I REALLY need a bigger car with two kids? Do you have any smaller SUV/crossover vehicles you'd recommend?

DH & I have two kids and have a Honda CR-V - love it! The storage is fine for us - baby and pre schooler.

I have one kid and a Chrysler 200 and could easily fit a big stroller and tons of groceries. And also 2 car seats.
I love it. You def don't need an SUV.

Yes!!! You will need more space. I have a Rav4 Limited and it has a ton of space even with my DD and her gear but then....... My son arrived. Between two car seats, his stroller, and everything else we need for them it feels cramped. It's tolerable for day to day stuff but family vacations??........ There is nowhere to put anything now. DH and I are talking about upgrading because, as much as I hate to because I loooove my truck, we need more space.

I have two kids and a Prius. More than enough room to fit groceries plus a double stroller. You don't need a SUV at all. In fact I am due with my 3rd in 12 days and plan on keeping my Prius because I love it so much.

I only have 1 on the way, but we just got a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it's amazing. It's just big enough without being TOO big, a huge trunk and even the basic model has lots of great features. We expect to have a second fairly soon after the first LO arrives, so the Jeep should carry us through beautifully.

What kind of seats do you have? We have a rf britax marathon, which makes the passenger seat pushed almost to the front. Therefore if I drive, my husband has to ride in the back since he doesnt fit in the front ( he's 6'2). If we had a 2nd child, riding in the back is not an option for him since there will be no space for him in the back with 2 car seats. If he drives, I can sit in the passanger seat, but my knees touch the dash. Not comfortable for long rides. I loveeeeee my prius, but we think if we have a 2nd baby, we'd have to get a bigger car.

I have an SUV and a toddler and need a bigger truck for #2. Granted I'm someone who carries everything they own with them, I just feel like I never have enough rooms. Especially if we take along our 2 dogs.

I have two kids and a Chevy Equinox and I'm looking to upgrade to a 7 passenger. You can not fit a person in the middle at all. So, we can't take anyone with us besides our kids.

Definitely depends on your lifestyle, how you travel as a family etc.
We used to have a Cherokee (before it was totaled) & it fit a lot (we went on many road trips with co-sleepers, strollers, week long suitcases, beach gear etc.
Only thing I hated was with 2 car seats the front passenger seat didn't have a lot of knee space (I'm 5'8")
I now have an Acura MDX & love everything about it. Both car seats fit with leg room for DDs & for front passenger,
Does have a 3rd row if you want someone to come along, otherwise the trunk is HUGE! BIGGER than my Cherokee was.
My DH has a Hyundai genesis & love it & it's HUGE!!! Inside has tons of leg room & so does the trunk. (drove from NC to Disney, with double stroller, costumes, weeklong suitcase, etc). So you don't have to have an SUV. Just need to think about your needs.

When I got pregnant with #2, we got rid of my Envoy & bought a Tahoe. We do s lot of family travelling bc my family is OOS, but its definitely big enough. We opted for captains chairs for the boys carseats which gives me storage room between the seats. The.double stroller takes up one side of the trunk.

DD is in a Graco turbo booster
DS is in the Diono RT120
#3 will be in the graco snug ride.

If you want to stick with a Nissan the Maxima has a TON of space. We fit the Uppababy in the trunk with no problem and there is a ton of room left and the back seat still has room for two seated adults with the infant seat installed.

Your car is almost the exact same size as my PT Cruiser. We have 2 DC, and never had a problem with space. We could fit a sit-and-stand stroller, pack-and-play, and tons of accessories in the car without any problem.

dh as a mazda 3- fine for taking to daycare but not for trips.
