I came thisclose to hitting two kids with my car today

I'm still on edge. And while I know kids are kids, I was more than annoyed. I went to get my coffee on a break from work. I turned from a busy road onto a residential road, and turned slowly around the corner, as there is not a lot of visability, and I was in no rush. Two kids , who were riding up the residential road and turning the corner to the busy road, come barrelling at my car on their bikes. No helmets on, and maybe 12ish. They weren't going slow and they didn't turn the corner tight and smoothly, hugging the corner. No. They made a huge wide turn and came so close to my car at a fast speed. They basically were riding in the road where a car would be. I wanted to lay on my horn but didn't. I know they are kids but seriously it makes me think that there should be laws that kids can't ride their bikes in certain zones..and helmet laws need to be enforced more. They need to learn how to ride safely and be cautious. I'm sick over this. Not to mention I stopped short and nearly got rear-ended by the guy behind me. If your children are old enough to ride bikes, please urge them to be more safe. I know everyone tries his or her best as a parent but scary things can happen.

thank GOD nothing happened!! I completely understand what you are feeling. I had something similar in Queens. Driving down a residential street, going the speed limit. Cars parked on both sides, narrow one way.

Two kids dart out between cars directly in front of my car. I hit the brakes. Nothing happened. They were probably 7-8 years old. I was totally freaked out.

If I didn't have good reflexes, or they came out a split second faster...

Now every time I drive down a residential one way with cars i'm hyper aware and go slower than the limit. Live and learn I guess.

Thank God no one got hurt and I agree I get so nervous driving when I see kids that I am practically crawling down the road. My grandmother always taught us that when you see a ball there's always a kid close behind, I've always lived by that driving. Bikes get me nervous too because even if they are riding down a straight road they never fail to veer to the side or weave back and forth. And never do they have helmets on.

Sounds like an experience I recently had. We were making a left hand turn onto Rte 25A West near the Rocky Point Kohl's/Michael's. A group of 7 teenagers decided to walk across the street when the light was green for us and the cars going straight. When one of the cars honked at them, they decided to stand still in the road and curse. Mind you, it was also nearly 9pm at night.
