I guess your plasma is a rather rare brand most plasmas have a half life of 10,000-20,000hrs
My plasma (a 4 year old model)... has 20,000 half life. I know people that have the same exact model and have logged well over 10,000 hours and they show NO degregation.
If your viewing is to turn on your set and leave it on 10 hours a day, in about 3 years you will reach the 10,000 hour level. Also, this “half-life” is not a sudden degradation – you might start noticing a gradually reduced picture quality well prior to this arbitrary point.
Again... thats assuming the model is 10k half-life. I don't know of ANY plasmas models that have only 10k halflife that have been made in the past five years.
And like I said.... based on MY viewing habits (cause frankly I don't care about anyone else's viewing habits)... I have 1900 hours logged in my plasma (my plasma can display total hours viewed). That means I won't hit half-life for 18 more years.
Sharp unveiled an incredible breakthrough in flat-panel television today with the introduction of the world’s largest widescreen Liquid Crystal HDTV at the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show. The new 65-inch AQUOS™ is the pinnacle of Sharp’s industry-leading roster of Emmy® Award-winning* flat-panel TVs that deliver eye-popping sight and sound experiences as well as unmatched contemporary designs. With screen sizes ranging from 13 to 65 inches, Sharp’s AQUOS collection reinforces the company’s dominant position as the global leader in Liquid Crystal Television.**
Sharp Aquos is GEORGEOUS. I'll give you that. Do you know how much a 37" model costs? ALOT. What do you think the 65" model will run? Sorry but I am not made of money.
and did you know that plasmas are not true hd? they can not display the full 1080 lines of resolution know as either 1080i or on new sets 1080p
Care to show me a piece of 1080p programming that I can readily watch right now Mr. Cablevision guy?
My Plasma is a native 720p set so I do know what you are talking about.
1080p plasmas are on the horizon as well.
from the same article In addition, as you have read in our other articles – true HDTV is 1080i. Plasma TVs provide a picture down-converted to 720p.
I can very easily see a difference in PQ between 480p and HDTV. But I have a very hard time telling the difference between a 1080i picture and a 720p picture. Is the difference worth the multiple THOUSANDS you would pay extra for LCD? I don't think so in my opinion.
Point being.... I was in the market for 50" or larger. LCD isn't even an OPTION at this point. If you can find me a 50" or larger LCD that I can buy right now... feel free to link it to me.

Re: TV or No TV in the bedroom?
Lets see... largest LCD Best Buy sells... Sharp Aquos - 45" - $4799
Largest LCD Circuit City sells... Samsung 40" - 720p - $3999
Largest LCD J&R sells... Sharp Aquos 45" again - $4999
If the 45" Aquos sells for close to five grand after tax... how much do you think their 65" will come in at? My guess... 15k.... easy.
But I still haven't found anything over 50" yet.

I was RIGHT on the money!
There is no pricing information available yet. In Japan this large LCD HDTV sells for about $14,800.

well since you know so much i guess you know that within the next 3-4 months hd dvd and blu ray dvd will be out both capable of 1080p, also the playstation 3 will be capable of it as well. also the reason you do not see any 1080p programming right now is due to the limited number of tv that can produce it, as more tvs can handle the 1080p more content will be produced in it. yes they might be on the horizon but not avail now.

1080p programming is AT-LEAST a year away. Probably closer to two before any of the NY markets will carry it as we are always behind.
I know its available... and of course I would be lying if I was to say you won't notice a difference between 720p and 1080p.
BUT... (and here is the kicker).... is a 1080p set worth the price??? If you want something larger than 50" then the answer is NO.
