TTC & Exercise.....
Question.....
I have been trying to lose weight for the past few months without much success - I've been preoccupied & stressed with TTC and found comfort in sweets.... I was thinking about joining a gym (specifically Curves Gym) to help me lose weight and get back into shape. My doctor told me it would be ok to expercize while TTC as long as I do not exert myself. Personally, I find the Curves worksout to be manageable and not at all difficult for me... However, my mother is insisting that I should refrain from joining a gym until after we have a baby.... I've been putting of joining a gym for months becasue we've been TTC but now I feel as if I am just wasting time since we are still TTC without any luck....
Has anyone else spoken to their doctor about this? Also, for those of you that do have a regular expercize routine, are there any exercizes you avoid since you are TTC?
Thanks!!

Re: TTC & Exercise.....
I was actually going to post a similar question. I work out rather vigorously 3-4 times per week. Sometimes i think it might be too much. I did not change my workouts for my (falied) IUI cycle last month, although the day I ovulated I happened to be in a lot of pain and so I skipped the gym. We are starting IVF next cycle and I have decided that after they put the embryo back in I will take some time off from the gym. If I want exercise, I will walk. I am not too familiar with curves, but i think that i would just use your judgement and not over-do it when the baby might be trying to implant. I think that a lot of doctors will probably tell you it doesn't matter, but I still think you need to be a little careful.

Re: TTC & Exercise.....
I run alot and was actually training for the NYC marathon before I got pregnant. Per my doctors orders, I had to stop exercising completely once I started stimming for my IVF cycle and did not start back up again until I got the clearance from my RE- when I was 7 weeks pregnant. But this was because I was doing IVF and it's alot of stress on your body so they don't want you to develop OHSS or hurt yourself.
For an IUI, you can def exercise, I would just take it easy the week after the IUI. But you should start something- exercise helps you become more healthy which can help you conceive- just start out slow and build up. Curves is a great idea!

Re: TTC & Exercise.....
I am having a similar struggle... All that I have heard suggests that you can/should exercise (good for health, weight management, and stress relief), but not to get to a point where you are pushing yourself too much. My plan is to do a lot of walking and maybe the elliptical....no running since that pushes me too much, not being in shape and all. I also plan to do this before I ovulate and then keep it really low during the 2ww.

Re: TTC & Exercise.....
Thanks everyone!
I have been trying to walk more often and I am planning on signing up for Curves.
One more question..... Crunches while TTC - yes or no?

Re: TTC & Exercise.....
I was exercising a lot pre-TTC so I just kept to my regular routine. Once we started our IUIs however I did end up taking it easier during the 2ww. However, I will say I honestly did not think we would get pregnant this last IUI at all so I even upped my running a bit and it didn't end up making a difference.
If you are not already exercising I would ask your doctor what they recommend. I think walking is a great activity and that's pretty much all I've been doing since I got my BFP. I am not going to push it until after we see a heartbeat.
