Transitioning from carseat to booster
I know what the AAP recommendations are, but I am curious. How old was your DC when you put them in a booster seat with a regular seatbelt?

Re: Transitioning from carseat to booster
Do you mean backless booster or booster with a back? I am curious to the replies as well. Currently my DD is in a highback booster with harness still.

Oh, I didn't realize there was a difference, is one better than the other?
I don't think my first DC is old enough to transition, but I am looking forward to the future since we will need a new carseat soon.

If you are using the harness the seat is not a booster - it is a Combination seat being used in the car seat mode. A booster does not use built in harnesses.

Transitioning from carseat to booster
The real answer here is for a parent to use a harness system - car seat - as long as the child fits in the seat. The child receives more protection and is safer. No child under the age of 4 should ever be in a booster, that said, again, the longer the better.

Re: Transitioning from carseat to booster
Booster with a back he was just over 40 lbs but outgrew the seated height of the britax boulevard. He went into a britax parkway sgl with latch to 100 lbs. He was 4 1/2 and at 6 he still uses the back and the crotch strap too. Most of his friends have removed the back, but we still use it with a back and have no plans to stop.

ugh car seats confuse me so much! I have the Britax Frontier and it is called Combination, Harness to Booster. So that's why I said that. So the only difference is when you use the harness it is a combination seat but when you then use the same seat with a regular seatbelt, it's called a booster?

I'm glad you wrote this....DD is 5 1/2 & still in her Britax Fronteir & I think it's 85lb & 57" as a harness.
