Re: Toy Guns
water gun nerf gun plastic fakey grey gun with big orange tip... Its a toy
I guess I'm in the minority here.
Its never the toy but the lessons behind them.
What about play swords?
I played with toy guns as a kid, as did just about every kid I knew back then. Maybe even some of you.
Mind you, I 'grew up' on military bases. Still I think its not the toy to censor but the mentality. Too many times I've heard of children picking up a real gun and not knowing it was 'real' and firing it.

Re: Toy Guns
I prefer dd not have toy guns. Water guns are ok in my book. DH is a cop, and we live in VA so guns are more in your face around here. I am just concerned about sending mixed messages when teaching gun saftey. All are guns are double locked in thia house, trigger locks, cable locks, and gun safes. I just dont want her even seeing them in the home. DH doesn't wear his weapon home on his hip, he locks it up as soon as he walks in the door. I just cant see saying guns are not to be touched, and then letting her have them as toys. Kwim? This is coming from a woman who is a member of the nra. I have my own glock, and am a better shot then my DH. When she is old enough and asks we will show her. Til then out of sight out of mind.

Re: Toy Guns
Considering there have been cases where young children (10 and above) have been shot accidentially by police for carrying a "gun" and the fact that we just had another school shooting at the school just down the road from the one I work at , there is NO WAY my son is getting a toy gun.

Re: Toy Guns
One of my big parenting rules is NO GUNS FOR DS! I just hate them and I won't tolerate my son playing with them even as a child. my neighbors son is always outside with his bb gun and it infuriates me.

Re: Toy Guns
My kids have tons of guns - water guns, pirate guns, cowboy guns, nerf guns. Even though they are toys, there are rules that they follow with them or they get taken away.

Re: Toy Guns
I don't know... he has a nerf gun and a water gun.
He would make believe he was shooting me...instead of bullets, I would tell him he is shooting out freeze power and I would be frozen until leo threw boiling water..fake...to thaw me out.
at his friends, he grabs the guns.
growing up my brother's fave toy was a replica rifle. he grew up to be the biggest pacifist, vegan flaming liberal you have ever met.

Re: Toy Guns
I loved water guns when I was a kid. If DS has a super soaker, nerf gun, paint gun, etc, I think it is totally fine. No big deal.
