Re: Towns with SAHM's
Posted by Momof3boys
Hi. I made my observations based on FB moms groups and just based on the fact that my entire block is SAHM and most people I meet in town. If I bring my son to school, I see tons of moms who I assume do not work as I always see them and they are not dressed up!!! I wish there were more FTWM as I dont want my kids to be excluded when they get to elementary. I don't think the moms will include my son in play dates, etc as they won't know me from a hole in the wall. I don't get home at 4:00 pm or anything! I assume most will be busy on weekends with other things! Hopefully I am wrong as I want him to make friends!!!
Your kids won't be excluded. In fact, they'll make a lot more friends when they start school. And, they will have most of their pay dates on the weekends. You'll meet moms by going to PTA meetings, scouts, etc. it really is true that you meet people thru your kids.

I hope you are right because this is a concern for me as well. DS currently goes to a private pre-k where most of the moms seem to be SAHM. DS has been invited for play dates but they always want to do it in the middle of the week after school. I can't do that because of my child care situation. I would always explain why DS couldn't go and say we are always available on the weekend but I'm finding most people are too busy on the weekends for play dates. I feel like DS gets cheated. I hope it gets better when he goes to elementary school.

Massapequa - a lot of SAHMs .....but I don't think there's a crazy majority, I think it's mixed.
Coming off of Daycare where everyone is a working mom, it was difficult for me to make 'friends' and the dynamic was very different when my oldest started K.
With the daycare Moms it's alot of FB groups and group text and last minute "headed to the park in an hour if anyone is free to play" - Everyone is in the same boat, running in and out the door and your conversations are expected to be short and rushed and play dates are assumed to be last minutes.
With the school age Moms it's more difficult to connect when you're not AT the school - Cub Scouts, scheduled play dates, baseball games, birthday parties - that's how I met those Moms and gradually developed friendships. I found I've had to work a bit harder for MYSELF with that crew
Same here. I'm in West Islip. It seems to be a mix to me. I am very friendly and have never had a problem making friends but I am finding it takes a lot of effort to do so in this element.
I'm in West Islip too and a shy FTWM. I'm screwed!!!
