Toddler dental visit question
I just received the explanation of benefits for DD first dental visit. The cleaning and fluoride treatment were fully covered but it looks like the dentist is charging dor Nutritional counseling and Oral Hygiene instructions. We literally talked to the hygenist and dentist for like 5 min each. They advised that DD she be weened off the bottle and to stop allowing her to have a bottle at night. I would think tjat having a discussion would be included in a visit.
I can't justify paying 135 bucks for a 5 min conversation. Am I wrong?

Re: Toddler dental visit question
You are not wrong and that is a bullshitt scam if you ask me. I would fight that tooth and nail and then find a new dentist.

Re: Toddler dental visit question
I don't think they would bill you for that. If you did get a bill, then yes it's BS and fight it

Toddler dental visit question
Your insurance allowed that charge or is it directly from the dentist?
My ds first visit was less than $135 and I didn’t need to pay anything.

Toddler dental visit question
DD just went for her first visit a few weeks ago. It was $141 and the office told me I shouldn't be billed at all because it's preventative?
Where did you take her? We went to That Broadway Smile in Massapequa.

The bill is for 345.00. This was for cleaning, fluoride ,nutritional counseling and hygiene instruction. I owe 135 and the insurance picked up the rest. She had nothing wrong with her teeth just first cleaning.

I would 100% refuse to pay this, and if they didn’t remove the bill I would report them to the insurance company. And regardless of the outcome, I would find another dentist.

Re: Toddler dental visit question
Nope. Not wrong at all. I would definitely call the office and dispute. On a side note, my kids also get the fluoride treatment each visit (every 6 months). The insurance only pays for 1 treatment a year so I have to pay for the other. That was a shock when I got that bill for my twins. Also, one had a cavity so had to have a little sweet gas. Well insurance doesn’t pay for that so we had to pay $155 for that. I feel like we get nickel and dimed for everything!

Re: Toddler dental visit question
some drs and dentists try to overbill insurance to see what they will pay for sometimes its just a code issue - and insurance will pay if you correct it.
either way just call the dentist and see if they will credit you. if not, find a new dentist

Re: Toddler dental visit question
I would refuse to pay. The PA who saw my son for his annual physical put nutritional counseling on the bill and insurance said we had to pay a copay because it wasn’t part of an annual physical. We haven’t gotten a bill yet but I am not going to pay it. She asked does he a variety of foods and does he take a vitamin. That is not nutritional counseling.
