Help---Question about dental inurance for a toddler
My husband dropped a bomb on me tonight and told me that we are going to lose our dental insurance in August!!! It really sucks because our dentist won't see our son until he is 3 unless there is a problem. He is only 2 years, 5 months. I am going to call them on Monday and see if I can get him in... Can I get dental coverage for him through Child Health Plus? I live in NY. We have regular health insurance and live on a fixed income. What do you use if your job doesn't have dental insurance. I had this problem growing up and my teeth are a mess because of it...

I have dental insurance but my kids didn't go to the dentist until they were in Kindergarten. I didn't see a need before that.

Re: Help---Question about dental inurance for a toddler
I would just go to another dentist then. 3 is late in this day and age to see the dentist. Most peds recommend going when your child gets teeth now. There are plenty that will see a child before then.
You can sign up for a discounted dental program which would give you a cheaper rate on cleanings, etc.
You could take your child to Stony Brook University's dental school. It's a little cheaper than the regular dentist, and they have pediatric dentists. Not sure exactly how much since they take insurance for my child.
Child Health Plus offers dental, but you must get medical with them too. It's not separate.

My dentist said my son could come anytime....and he was about 2.5 when I asked when they first saw toddlers.
I would call around and find a dentist willing to see your son before you lose your insurance.

Re: Help---Question about dental inurance for a toddler
Thanks for the replies. We can't see another dentist because we have to use the one we are using already. Insurance requirement.. I am going to call tomorrow and get him in before the summer. I wonder if they can put a sealant on his teeth.. He has sensory issues and severe oral delays. Getting in his mouth is not easy.. I am going to have to look around and get something for all of us.. I need a ton of work. Does anyone use any of the dental plans that are advertised? I am going to see if our currant dental plan has some available. We use Healthplex..
