To pierce or not?

Im on the fence with whether or not to get DD ears pierced. She is 9 months and my friends are telling me that the window is getting smaller. Its now or when shes older.

For those that had DD ears pierced early did you feel it was better earlier to have it done?

Was it hard to take care of cleaning them when they are so little?

I had mine done in second grade and they got infected and closed. Then in 4th grade they got infected and closed over the eating and I had to go to the ER to have them surgically removed. Sooo I knew I wanted DDs done before they knew what was going on. The ped did them and it was after an exam where they were already upset so they cried and I felt bad but they are fine. The ped said they get cleaned when they are bathed. No turning needed either. One DDs was a little red so I just used an alcohol wipe.

DD #1 had her ears pierced when she was 4 months and DD #2 got hers pierced when she was 8 months (Only b/c I kept forgetting about it otherwise I meant to do it earlier. They both cried for a max of 30 seconds and then they were fine. It gives them time to heal properly and you dont have to worry about the baby playing with them because they dont know they are there. Ped said there was no need to do anything with them but I occasionally spin them a little. Neither one of them have had any issues so far.

Cds58019 since your dd was older she didnt grab her ears or give an issue at bedtime? My dd is 9 months and i wss going to do it but have been afraid that shes going to feel them and get annoyed with them or be in pain for a few days.

I did them at 4 mos and almost changed my mind the day I went - I felt so bad and guilty. But dr kept telling me it was fine so I did it. She cried for awhile after and then all good since. She is 2 now. Cleaning was easy. Turn then when I could, bactitracin/rubbing alcohol to clean. No issues.

She never touched them as a baby. Now that she is a little girl - she likes to look at them in the mirror and say earrings and likes when I change them to something new. I just tell her no touch and she typically stops. I am happy with my decision.

I did DD two weeks ago. A little over 7 months.

I went to a place where they numbed her ear first and use a medical grade palstic earring. They're pretty too.

I wish I did it when she was younger only because she's so alert now. She didn't want to stay still. She was not happy about a stranger touching her. She cried a little but I was happy that it wasn't from pain.

I did DD's at 4 months. She didn't mess with them at all. I don't regret the decision at all.

Did at 5 months, after her second round of immunizations and I';m so glad I did. DD tugs at ears to sleep and she started doing that conistently at like 7/8 months. But in our family, culture, baby girls are pierced within the first month of birth.. the fact that I waited "that" long was a bit frowned upon.

I love how they look, but I am opting to wait until DD is older and can tell me if she wants them.

We did them at 6 months and DD never touched them or played with them. It was easy to take care of and I don't regret the decision at all. If anything, it would've been harder for us to have gotten them pierced older because DD would start playing with them.

DD was pierced at 9 months. She cried for literally all of 3 seconds and then was fine. It was super easy to clean them, especially since she wasn't all touchy feely with them.

My girls both got theirs pierced the same day they got their first round of shots. One was 6 weeks old and the other was 8 weeks old. They never had any problems with them. Now my girls are 5 and 6 years old and they both chose to not wear earrings. They wear earrings maybe 1-2 times a year. I personally will hold off on earrings if I have another baby girl.

pierced DD ears at 4 months. The past month she has been pulling on the earring and she is almost 10 months.

We did DD's right after she turned 1. I won't lie, she cried pretty hard after each each was pierced. She cried much worse than she ever did with shots, so I know it hurt, even though she was "numbed" with a spray. After about 5 minutes she calmed down and that was the end of it, she didn't seem to notice them after that. I regretted it immediately after we did it but now I guess I'm glad she at least got it over with while she's young enough not to remember.

If I could go back I would have done it much earlier so she wouldn't be as aware of what was going on.

I had DDs ears pierced when she was 5 months. We've had absolutely no issues and she is now 3 1/2. She's never pulled at them or played with them. She does like to look at them in the mirror though . No regrets.

I have 2 DD's and have not pierced their ears. My older DD is now 4 and does want earrings, but she is no adament about it. Once she really shows a desire to have them, I will take her to get her ears pierced. I am presonally not a fan of babies with earrings.

we are gong to get Haileys ears done around 3 months... my sister regrets not getting her daughters done then... she got them done last year at 4 and she was way to active and they kept coming out and they closed...

I chose to do it when my DD asked. She was 3 and she cried for 2 minutes.

I did it to both my DDs when they were younger...they cried as it was happening...like a shot - but they were smiling by the time we left the office! It is so quick and they forget quickly too!

Since the Ped did it..they were done in his office and they were meddically grade plastic....WHICH IS THE BEST PART!!! bec there is NO CARE!! I never turned them, cleaned them...i left them alone and they are both fine!

We did it at 6 months. I cried, she didn't. I cleaned and turned them every time I did a diaper change. She never bothers with them at all. I have small hoops in her ears and I though she may pull on them but she doesn't ever touch them at all. She is 15 months now.

I got DD's pierced at 11 months at the mall. The did both ears at once, she cried for a minute and then was fine. She is still too young to really notice or try to pull them out. I've never seen her bother with them.

You're supposed to clean them twice a day, but I barely did it once a day and only for about a week and we had absolutely no issue with infection. The process to clean them is so simple - not a big deal at all.

The only thing I didn't consider beforehand is that she won't let me mess around with her ears, so I have no idea when I'll be able to change the earrings out. I don't love the ones they used to pierce, so I'm disappointed about that.

I don't regret doing it at this age. Some people view ear piercing as a special mommy/daughter moment when she's old enough to ask, but that's not a tradition we have in my family so I didn't care too much about that.

Each of daughters had their ears pierced at 3 years old. They both asked for it. It was a great memorable experience for them, me, and dh. My older one didn't cry at all. The younger one cried a little and once she looked in the mirror she stopped crying and was smiling and asked for the next one.

We are waiting for DD to get older and for her to ask for them. She is almost 3 and has asked for them, but I don't think she realizes what has to happen to get them. So I'm thinking around Kindergarten time ish-or in a couple of years when she asks for them again.

We are waiting until my DD asks for them. Then I plan on making it a mommy/daughter day with shopping, lunch and ear piercing. I had mine done as a baby and they got infected so my mom had to take them out. Then I didn't get them done again until I asked around 5 or 6 years old. I honestly don't even remember the pain or anything. But I do remember feeling like a big girl and picking out the earrings I wanted and making sure I kept them clean.
