Timing of bottles with solids

I have a two-part question about the timing of bottles with meals, and more specifically about my DD's schedule:

6-month-old DD currently has two solid meals per day, in the morning and in the evening. Up until this point, we had been giving her her bottle and food at the same time. First, we did the food first, then bottle, as per the pediatrician's advice, but then she was hardly drinking anything, and that's a big issue for her to begin with. Then I started doing the bottle, then food, but it was harder to get her to eat.

DD had been having her first bottle around 6:30 and her first meal/second bottle around 9:30. Now, as of this weekend, DD started sleeping later, and has had her first bottle after 7. If we waited until her next bottle time for her meal, it would be after 10, and she will likely be napping at that point. Yesterday, she napped from 9:30-11ish, so she didn't have breakfast until after 11!!

So, what would you do? Morning bottle, then food an hour or so later without bottle, before her nap?

Do you usually give your DC his/her meal & bottle together or separately?

Thanks for your help! We had a nice schedule going for a few weeks, but DD seems to be ready to change it...which is fine with me if it means sleeping later!

Not enough. Only about 20, give or take a few, plus whatever goes into her cereal. She does not drink a lot, which is why she was still getting 6 bottles per day, until yesterday when we just couldn't fit them all in. Her GI had us increase the calories per ounce since her intake is so low.

My ped always wanted my DD to have the bottle first, that was more important nutrition than the solids. That being said, I always gave the bottle first and then solids about a half hr to 45 min later. Chat Icon

I always do solids after she nurses since the solids are less important for them to get. DD nurses around 7:30 and then has breakfast at 8:30 or 9. I still play around with her second meal since her schedule seems to be changing all the time right now. She's just dropped to 4 bf sessions so she usually nurses around 3pm and then I'll do solids at 4:30 or 5 depending on what we're doing. She does her last nursing session at 7. Spacing it this way I rarely have an issue getting her to eat.

Re: Timing of bottles with solids

When she was that little, we did solids when she woke up, first bottle right before her first nap. She then had a "lunchtime" bottle, a bottle before her afternoon nap, then solids for dinnertime, and then her 4th bottle before bed. When we started a 3rd meal we replaced it with the lunchtime bottle.

I EBF, but I always gave solids 30-60 minutes after nursing/bottle.
