Solids, Bottles, and Naps
Aggh! I can't seem to figure this out.
My 6 month old DS (7 months on Monday ) recently had a reflux flare-up. He had been doing amazingly well for months! Anyway, my ped said we were overfeeding him (30-32 oz formula + 4 tbsp cereal w 3 oz form. mixed in+ 2 cubes veggie a day).
Sometimes because of his naps, his schedule gets thrown off and so there is less time between meals and bottles and its hard to fit them in. And, bc he goes to bed at 7:30 (like a clock!) this limits how we can spread things out.
So, if your DC naps for a long time, do you alter your feeding schedule? Would you skip a "meal" if it was only about an hour before the next bottle?
He still has a bottle every 4 hours during the day (sttn 7:30-7), should he be going longer between bottles?
TIA!

Re: Solids, Bottles, and Naps
I'm kind of dealing with the same thing- DD is 7 months! However, DD only gets about 15-20 oz. of formula per day. She's not much for eating first thing- she'll take a bottle sometimes but not breakfast right away (wakes 7-7:30). Bottle than nap aroudn 8:30-9. Breakfast when she wakes up 9:30-10am. Than bottle around 12 noon. Today tried to feed her lunch before her nap- but she wasn't having it, she was so tired. Just went down for nap and hopefully it will be until around 2- lunch after. Sometimes *maybe* a third nap these days. Than bottle around 4 and dinner 5pm. Bed at 6pm. So, that's usually 4 bottles during the day (and still 1 x per night). With the 3 meals squeezed in. My recommendation is maybe to scale back on the #'s of bottles you are giving? If you want to keep the oz. the same- maybe more in a bottle- ie: 3-8oz. bottles? That might help. My DD won't take large bottles at all though, but I know some do. Good luck! I feel like their sleep/eat schedules are always changing!!

Re: Solids, Bottles, and Naps
I'm in a similar situation. DD has been sleeping from 6 pm to about 8 a.m. . Then she'll either take 2 1-hour naps, or 1 2-hour nap. Either way, it's hard to fit in 3 meals and 4 bottles. I ended up dropping her first bottle (that she used to have around 6:30 and then go back to sleep). She now drinks about 21 oz. of formula a day.
If, however, we're out a lot during the day, I might give her a 4th bottle, instead of a "meal."
I hope that helps.

Re: Solids, Bottles, and Naps
Sounds like too much formula, from what I have read/heard , if eating that much, they really only need 20-24 oz's a day of formula.
We feed/sleep/repeat around here too though.
Basically Wake up 6am- bottle ( 7 oz's) Breakfest 8am-cereal and fruit Nap 8:30-11:00 11:00-Bottle ( about 4-6 oz's) Lunch 12:30-fruit/veggie Nap 12:145--3:00 3:00-bottle -4-6 oz's 5:00-dinner cereal w/veggie 7:00-bottle 4-6 oz's.
HTH!
