Time to switch to level 2 nipples???
When will I know that it is time to switch to level 2 nipples?? My DS is 2 months and he was increasing the amount of time inbetween feedings by a little at a time but suddenly this past week we have gone back to 1 1/2 hours inbetween feedings!! Nothing else has been different. I also noticed that he drinks almost twice as much when he is awake but if he is drowsy or it is nightime, he drinks hardly anything before falling asleep. Could this mean that the level 1 nipple is too slow for him and it is time to go up to a level 2? if not, how do you know when it is time to change nipples? THANKS!

Re: Time to switch to level 2 nipples???
HOw long does he take to finish a bottle?
OUr son's ped said that it should take no more than 20 mins. When he was taking forever to finish his bottles that's when we went to a larger nipple.

Re: Time to switch to level 2 nipples???
Not sure what bottle your using but the directions on the Dr. Browns says to change to level 2 when your baby turns 3 months. Of course its just a suggestion but thats when I changed it, I noticed she wasn't finishing her bottles and pushing it out, once I changed the nipple she drank it all and it took 5 minutes.

I changed when DD started collapsing the nipple while she drank - she was almost 6 months

Re: Time to switch to level 2 nipples???
The slow flows are usually 0-3 months so at the 4 month visit they said we could try a medium flow. She drank it too fast and puked it all back up. Tried it again a month later- same.
She's back on the slow flow and will stay with it until she is off the bottle!

We haven't changed over either and he's 6 months. I feel that if he's doing well with this then won't change anything.
If he's hungry only a couple hours later I would increase the amount you're giving him assuming you're formula feeding.

Re: Time to switch to level 2 nipples???
I switched when DS was collapsing the nipple (he was sucking it very hard). I then tried switching him to level 3's around 7 months and it was wayyy to fast. Tried again at 9 months and still too fast so he's still on level 2's at 16 months and he finishes them quickly so it def depends on the child.

Re: Time to switch to level 2 nipples???
Before I went to the next level nipple, I opened up the level 1 a little bit with a toothpick. So it was a slightly faster flow, but not as fast as a level 2.

Re: Time to switch to level 2 nipples???
Just switched Brady over to a level 2. He is 3 months.
I noticed that he was falling asleep and/or pushing away all of his bottles and just getting very frustrated and restless while eating. I switched to a level 2 and hasn't had a problem since.

Re: Time to switch to level 2 nipples???
It's time to switch if DC is taking forever to finish a bottle, getting frustrated, collapsing the nipple. That said, my boys are almost 16 months and still use level 1.
