Throwing a baby shower - Advice

Hi ladies,

So I am coming on this board because I know most of you probably had baby showers, or have thrown some yourselves.

I need some advice and some ideas.

First I am paying for the shower myself. its a friend I was MOH for. Her mom wont throw it (she is a b1tch) and his mom is gone. Basically if I don't do it no one will.

I'm looking at $500-$600 for the venue. I saved a lot on the invites. I bought the pattern on Etsy and printed them at Costco. I am custom making the thank you notes to match the invites.

So I am TRYING to save some money, but as far as I'm concerned in for a penny....

1. I bought Purple Mason Jars for center pieces. $20

2. I will buy flowers from NYC the day before. I can get "bodega" flowers for cheep, and they will look good. $50

3. I bought a really pretty banner for the room. $25

4. I bought wooden blocks for people to decorate. Good ones. Even if the mom and dad don't want them I thought it would still be cute and fun. $25.

5, I am making custom cards for "baby wishes". Basically a keepsake for mom to have. I did NOT want "advice" because I know how much pregnant women LOVE advice about how to raise a kid.

6. I think I am going to buy pocket book scavenger hunt. This will be the only "organized" game with a prize. I think I will just have a Starbucks gift card for $10 as a prize.

7. Should I play any other games?

8. Its a Winnie the pooh theme. So I bought mini honey jars. Im going to put "bee" fabric on it and give that out as a favor. I will custom make the tags to match the invite/Thank you. $70

9. I bough cute "chalk" signs. Maybe for the cake....One that says "Presents", etc. One that says "Fill a card of wishes for mom". Stuff like that as I see fit when I get there.

So anyone BTDT can suggest anything I'm missing? Anything else I can do? More games? cute ideas? Stuff you loved at your shower?

Any websites you LOVE that might give me inspiration and ideas?

I am trying to keep the cost down if I can, but not SUPER concerned if I cant. It is what it is.

Thanks!

I think that sounds amazing! I don't think you need anything else. Present opening takes time, and guests can mingle themselves.

I think you have it all covered! I love the block decorating idea. How cute!

One thing- you said you're going to "buy" pocketbook scavenger hunt? Since you seem pretty crafty, especially with the paper goods- just google it! You can print them with a matching Winnie the Pooh graphic and make them cute. I made a TON of paper games for a friend's bridal shower (bridal bingo, how well do you know the bride, the pocketbook scavenger hunt, and something else I can't remember) and they mostly went to waste. They looked cute on the tables, but that's about it. I think you're perfect with the one game (especially since people can fill it in at their leisure) and one activity.

Sounds like it's going to be a really nice shower! Chat Icon

Thank you all. Sounds good. I just needed to make sure I was on the right track. And I like the idea of making the scavenger hunt myself rather than buying.

Not necessary at all since you have all your bases covered pretty much, but you could do some cheap "prizes" for guests that "win" games. I am a fan of using the timer during the present opening. When it goes off, whoever's present you were opening wins a prize. Ladies go nuts over bath and body works stuff, wine glasses, pens and stationary. Cheap stuff!
