Those with (or working towards) MBA's....

A few questions...

1. Where did you go?
2. Did you work while going? (part-time or full time)

Re: Those with (or working towards) MBA's....

My DH got his in 1.5 years. He did the Saturday program at Dowling. It was from 9-5 every Saturday but that allowed him to still work full time & not have to worry about night classes...Looking back, he thinks it was the best thing!

Re: Those with (or working towards) MBA's....

I have an MBA

1. I started at CW Post, but then one of my professors told me about their Fast Track program. So I started that the next semester. It was at the Brentwood campus, but I think it's moved again since then. 42 credits in 16 months Chat Icon

2. Yes, I worked full-time. Classes were on Thursday nights from 6-10 and Saturdays from 8-2.

I went to Fordham at night. I worked full-time. It took me 3.5 years.

A few questions...

1. Where did you go?
2. Did you work while going? (part-time or full time)

1) I went to Hofstra
2) I started out working full time and going to school part time. I decided to take on a dual concentration within my MBA (Accounting and Business Computer Information Systems) and decided to finish up my last year quickly so I went to school full time and worked part time.

Not to insult anyone who went there for their MBA, but I didn't find Hofstra too challenging and I definitely think it is possible to work full time and take classes part time.

However, it is very expensive!!! I went there for convenience (it was close to where I lived and worked).

Please let me know if you have any specific questions, and I will do my best to answer them! I do know that they have changed the program / requirements since I attended though!

Good luck!

Re: Those with (or working towards) MBA's....

Thanks for your feedback and responses ladies.

I'm looking into:
NYU
Baruch (top choice)
Columbia

I want to work full time, but only know right now of Baruch's schedule and Executive MBA program, as I went there for undergard. I wasn't really too sure about NYU or Columbia.

Fortunately, my job will pay AT LEAST 80% - as long as it's a degree associated with my "career" - International Finance.

Re: Those with (or working towards) MBA's....

I went to Hofstra part time and worked full time and got my MBA in three years. I took mostly the night classes and an occasional summer class (also at night).

I agree with the other poster who said that Hofstra wasn't that challenging. I felt graduate school was a lot easier than undergradute. Working full time and going to school part time was more a PIA than anything else, but very do-able.

But the schools you are looking into have great reputations. I don't know much about their MBA programs, but I do know someone who went to Columbia's Executive MBA Program, and it was very challenging and rewarding. They had strict criteria for acceptance, and I think they required a minimum # of years work experience, which meant you had to be around 30 years old or older to even get in. That was a few years ago, and it was their Executive Program. Not sure how their regular program is structured.

Good luck though. It's a great accomplishment once you have completed it!

When I was looking into an MBA, I heard great things about Baruch's program.

Re: Those with (or working towards) MBA's....

I am goign to Hofstra for my MBA.

I did one semester full time, im now going part time (not because its challenging, but bc its expensive and I am stretching out my jobs tuition reimbursement!)

I am working full time.

I agree with PPs, Hofstra has a great rep, but I dont find the classes very challenging. the only ones i find challenging are the finance classes.

I spent a year in the part time program at NYU but then I had to quit because I took a different job working way too many hours to balance the workload. I LOVED it! I made some great friends in my short time there and it was always a lot of fun. It is definitely doable if you work supports it (i.e. let's you leave in time for class). FM me if you have any specific questions about the program.

I got my MBA at Hofstra while working full-time. I agree with the other comments regarding Hofstra not being the most challenging program.

Re: Those with (or working towards) MBA's....

I went to DePaul University in Chicago. I went part time, while working full time. My company paid 80% of it. It took me 2 years to complete. Since I was a business undergrad, I was able to get 5 classes waived bc I got B or better.
