Those with newborns now, how long are you staying in?

Our ped told us not to take DS out in public, no malls etc. This sounds reasonable to me, it's flu season and I certainly don't want him sick. She didn't specify for how long though. He's not even 3 weeks old yet, so I'm thinking we'll probably be in until it gets warmer outside. I know it's for his own good but this is HARD! I can go out on my own or with my older DD but only if someone else can watch the baby. Even then it's only for an hour or two since we're EBF and I'm not ready for him to get bottles.

How long are you staying in? Are there any places that you do feel comfortable going?

We didn't bring her to any large public places until she was a little over 6 weeks. Partly because of flu season, but also bc I live in manhattan and don't have a car, so it was just too cold to walk her anywhere. She's now 8 weeks old and has been out to lunch with me a few times.

Now that we are having some warmer days, what abou tputting the baby in teh stroller and taking your DD to the park or out for a walk?

I brought him out after 6 weeks. I try to avoid very crowded places though- like malls and restaurants. I'll take him to family member's houses, baby stores, etc.

I went out after a month with the baby. We went out to eat etc... Nobody went near baby he stayed in the car seat. There is no way I would be able to sit in the house for months but that's me:) I took the baby to the mall too after a month it was fine.

My DD is almost 3 months, and hasn't really been out much at all.

I took her out a few times to stores on a weekday when I was still on maternity leave, but never on the weekends.

She is also a really fussy baby and I dont want to have to deal with that while shopping, so I wait for DH to be home to run out if I have too.

My pediatrician told me it was ok to take the baby out. He was more concerned with her being around kids than in public. We have taken her to BRU and target and small places to eat like the pizza place or panera. We don't keep her out for long unless its to my parents or DH parents house. She is 3 weeks. We have a housewarming next week and I'm not really sure I want to take her. She's more likely to get sick being in a smaller enclosed space than outside in a public area. I figure if no one is touching her or breathing on her in public she's ok

I had my DS out within a few weeks and took him anywhere by 4 weeks. He was born in Dec of 2011 so he was a winter baby. I was not going to spend my maternity leave couped up inside.

Our little guy isn't home yet but Im really limited on how long I can keep him in since he is our third and i will for sure have things to do with my other 2. Also I will be BF so leaving him with someone isn't really an option for me.
I understand wanted to protect them from everything that's going around and how serious it can be for a NB but I also understand the need for sanity.
I would say if you need to get out maybe the mall to just Walk around with baby covered and during the day could be an option until weather gets warmer.

DS is a few days away from 8weeks. Going to get his vaccinations today.
He has only been out during the day to a couple of places... mainly out of necessity.

We've gone out but have avoided malls/stores on weekends. We've done a bunch of errands during the week, including grocery stores.

I go for walks as much as possible, except for those freezing cold days we've had.

I have to get out of the house. I keep DD in her stroller with a blanket over her. As long as no one is coughing in her face or touching her, I feel the risk is minimal.

My Ped said the absolute biggest risk to infants is other young children. They are the biggest carriers of cold/flu. So, he said since she is our first child, we lucked out but if she had an older sibling who was in daycare, at the playground, etc. she would be exposed to a lot more then just running into a grocery store filled mostly with adults.

I think its a personal decision. I had my DS in January and was out at 5 1/2 weeks. I kept him in the his infant seat in the stroller. I don't see the problem with that. You have random people holding a baby and you don't know if they are coming down with something. I think 6 weeks is usually normal.

I took my DD to my folks at 5 days old and she's been there a ton of times in the last 10 wks. Other than that though, she's hardly been anywhere. We've gone to BRU, a winery and a brewery once each and that about it. I've taken her on tons of walks through our neighborhood when the weather is nice though (which unfortunately hasn't been very often). I'm taking her to Florida next week though and she starts daycare mar 6 so her days of being shielded from germs are soon to be over

DS is 2 weeks old. He's been to my sister's house twice. He'll be there again on Monday for my nephew's first birthday dinner (only immediate family will be there). When he's almost a month old, he'll attend my nephew's first birthday party (unless it snows or someone is sick). I'm planning on starting to take him out for walks to get some fresh air and we'll probably venture out to the mall/restaurant around 5-6 weeks!

We're not taking her out till she's at least 3 months old. Only to drs checkups, my moms house, and walks in the stroller outside. DH and I take turns going out by ourselves, and one of us stays with her.

I took them out about 6-8 weeks. I havent taken them out much lately though but thats mostly because of weather and its a pita to lugg them both. They want constant entertainment now and I don't think they would just chill in the stroller like they used to.

My baby will be 6 weeks tomorrow and I haven't taken her out. I'm going to wait until her shots which will be when she's turns 2 months.
If I have to go out and run errands, my DH stays behind to watch her. And I also started going to the gym during the weekend so I don't loose my mind.

Doctor said stay out of malls etc till 8 weeks. We still took them to bbb but they stayed in the snap and go covered.
Eta walks are fine! Make sure you get out on nice days, its important to your mental health!

at 4 weeks (they were born 5 weeks early). we have another child so we HAD to go to certain places, plus we are alot more laid back this time around.

just make sure they are covered and purell your hands before you touch them when you are in the store.

DD is 3.5 weeks. I've taken her to Target, BRU, BBB and families homes.

She is my second, I am not overly anal about things to begin with but my feeling is that as long as she is warm, covered and no one is breathing ON or her touching her, no harm.

I cannot wait to get out to more crowded places (mall) but its just too cold now.

i brought my ds (who was born last january) out within 3 days. Went to Gap and the grocery store.

We never stayed home. my husband is on rotating shifts and i had a 3 1/2 year old at the time. So i couldn't stay home. Plus my older ds was in swim class and so forth. WHen my husband was working, i had to take them.

We've always gone out from day 1 more or less. We just didn't pass him around or let some people get too close.

My dd 8 weeks and has only been to relatives' houses and once to bru on a weekday afternoon. We have to start bringing her out more in the next few weeks. My pediatrician recommended the deer park tanger outlets bc it's nice to walk around outdoors there, then make quick stops in some uncrowded stores.

I was very paranoid with DS and avoided parties/malls/ crowded places until he was about three months old. He was born in January.

People made fun of me for it, but I did not care. He also did not get sick at all until his first cold at 7 months old.

My second son was born in late April. This was easier since the flu and sick season was over. We stuck mostly to playgrounds and outdoor shopping malls tto ( live in VA).

Do what you feel comfortable with. I just hated the idea of my 4 week old hospitalized with a fever.

DS is 17 days old today and I'm going NUTS in the house! I took him for a walk on Friday b/c the weather was nice, but it's so cold most days I just can't bring him out. I had a c-section but once I get the go ahead to drive again, I plan on bringing him to my parents house just so I can get out a bit. Or, even going through a drive-thru for lunch so I don't lose my mind. I think when he's a few more weeks old we'll hit up BBB, but otherwise, he'll likely be in for a while longer.
