Those with Empire NYSHIP (NOT HMO)
Do you know if you need to have a referral to go see an RE or if you can just "try" to get an appointment without your PHCP's referral?

be careful hon....
some plans may not require a referral - but require you to be trying for a year....(if i would've switched to blue cross (cheaper co-pays) - i wouldn't have been able to go to the RE).

Just call your insurance company tomorrow.
While you're at it, get a printout of your IF benefits too (just in case!)

I have Empire NYSHIP and no I did not need a referral and no one required that I try for a year. We had a SA done at 6 months.

You dont need a referral but you should call them and "register" for infertility benifits. They will give you an approval number for any mjor procedures needed (I needed them for my IVF). They were WAY nice on the phone and it was simple to do. I also got a bunch of information on their "centers of excellence" in the mail.

Thank you! I had no idea that we would have to "register" for IF benefits...
Thank you to everyone! I'm getting on that today! Hopefully Health Insurance Co.s don't celebrate Columbus Day!
