Those who switched formulas...

How did you know you should switch? DS gets gassy and fussy after he eats...(except middle of the night feedings oddl enough). He is 5w. I am trying Dr Browns bottles, gripe water, chamomille tea...but usually he stills screams for a while after he eats....is this normal for a newborn or should I be calling his ped to ask to come in sooner? (our appt is after thaksgiving). Thanks

We knew something was up because my DS would scream and take a good hour to get a few ounces down.

We switched formula about 5x before he was put on Nutramigen which was a life changing experience for all of us, he was a different baby

Just the constant non stop fussiness made us switch probably 4-5 times. The first 2 times I called the ped, to see what he recommended. The little nursettes didnt agree with her (forgot the name), then we switched to Soy, then AR. By that time, I just stopped calling the ped, and started her on Nutramigen and it was a 100% improvement. She has stayed on Nutramigen and is 8 mos now.

Is Nutramigen the formula that you need a prescription for? Or is that the Altienum (sp?)??

DD was screaming the whole time during feeding & so fussy. We switched twice then the pediatrician told us she has reflux & a touch of colic- yay!
Maybe you can call your pediatrician & see what he suggests. He might want you to come in so they can check his poop.
By the way DD seems to be growing out of it so thankfully these issues aren't forever

DS was constipated from the Enfamil AR, so we were adding prune juice (1 oz in his last bottle at night) and that helped a little, but not great. He was also so gassy and fussy. I noticed the Emfamil makes a lot of foam in each bottle, which i was making individually. And on top of it he has horrible reflux. I decided to try Similac Sensitive for Spit Up. I also bought the Dr. Brown's formula pitcher. I figured, what the heck, let's give it a shot. I bought 1 tub of powder and figured that will last about 1 week, enough time to see if there's a real difference or not. Since the switch he's a different baby!

I mostly bf but his last bottle before bedtime is formula.
I started hearing him grunt in the middle of the night like he was trying to push gas. Then he started doing it during the day so I switched from regular Similac to Similac Sensitive for gas and fussiness. Seems to have worked.
There's a similac sensitive for spit up and one for gas and fussiness.
I also have added gripe water 3xs a day.

She was extremely gassy (I was calling her "Captain Fartypants") and would spit up nearly all the formula she had (but would never spit up breastmilk...) - this was with Enfamil Newborn nursettes. I switched to Dr. Brown's bottles and used the Enfamil Newborn powder, and noticed a slight change for the better. Then switched to,Enfamil Gentlease and she's a much happier baby.

If your gut is telling you something is off, give a switch a shot!

also the preparation of the formula. We were dumb and shaking it in the bottle at first. Now we stir and let it settle for 10 minutes before giving it to him.
If you are mostly doing formula, than buy that pitcher than many people swear by. You can prepare formula for the day and it greatly reduces the air bubbles. I will be buying that as soon as I supplement with more formula for the day.

So my ped told me to try a soy formula...I bought enfamil prosobee for sensitive tummy..I have dr.browns pitcher...also bought mylocin drops...I hope this helps!
