Those who are having or have had scheduled c-sections...

When do they schedule them? My doctor has me scheduled for 39w, 4d and I just think that sounds so late. As it is, I don't think I'll even come close to my due date. My due date is 3 days after my scheduled c-section. Just curious what other doctors do. I'm a bit upset because I want to get a tubal ligation and since my doctors primarily use Good Sam, where it's not allowed, they will do it at Southside as long as I have a scheduled c-section. However, since I got this date and am convinced I won't make it to the date, I'm guessing I'm going to get stuck at Good Sam if I go unplanned.

I am scheduled for 39W5days. It stinks but I'm dealing with it.

Why do you think you'll go earlier?

My doctors office does them anywhere from 10 days (thats the MAX) to a few days before your due date.

I want mine on my due date this time around or as close as possible.

I never went into labor on my own so I'm not worried about it this time.

They told me the week before my due date. If you go earlier, then you go earlier.

I went at 36 1/2 weeks with DS, but that was unusual circumstances. It's just that they told me this baby is measuring big at my 31 week appt, so my guess is that if I went to that date, the baby will be 12 lbs!!

Does anyone know if there is some new thing that they can't schedule before 39 weeks? I thought I had read that somewhere.

Supposedly the hospitals are cracking down and not scheduling before 39 weeks...that's what my doctor told me.

Keep in mind that the sonos could be off a pound either way. If you are having a c-section I wouldn't really worry about how big the baby is. My son was 10lbs and they are thinking this baby could be the same - more for us to squeeze and kiss. I wouldn't be shocked if the baby weighed less though since the sonos are not always accurate! Ok, this is something that I'm terrified about. I had a planned c-section with my first and had a great experience , and this pregnancy, I'll definitely be having another planned c-section, however, I'm so terrified of going into labor before my c-section. I don't know why I'm so scared, but I amChat Icon

I know, I'm hoping it's off and is overestimating. Thanks!

Re: Those who are having or have had scheduled c-sections...

I spoke to my OB about it and he said they will no longer schedule a c-section more than a week out. I don't know if it's his rule or the hospital's (St. Charles). I'm going to be scheduled for 39w5d.

Re: Those who are having or have had scheduled c-sections...

My obgyn said new studies have come out that babies born between 37-38 weeks were being sent to the NICU when the c/s or induction was elective or repeat with no outside need so that the hospital is cracking down on it. My repeat scheduled c/s is for 38 weeks 6 days. He had to get special permission for it, but since his c/s dates are Wednesdays and I went early for DS with preeclampsia they are allowing it.

We started talking about the date at around 35 weeks. They scheduled me the week before, I think.
I was 37w5d. I was having lots of issues with premature contractions. I had an amnio the day before to make sure the lungs were mature.

Yeah, it sounds as if this is a new hospital thing with the 39 week thing. I guess there is nothing I can do, if I go early, it is what it is.

Re: Those who are having or have had scheduled c-sections...

I read that 39 weeks is the best time for baby. Babies scheduled for 38 weeks don't do as well.

As for me, I am going at 36 weeks (probably) because of my placenta previa. This isn't a picnic either - I would rather wait if it weren't that waiting couldn endanger me.

I have an amnio on Monday to check DD's lung function because they want to take me so early.

Re: Those who are having or have had scheduled c-sections...

My dr. recently told me that he could not schedule any earlier than 2 weeks before my due date. He offered to schedule a c/s for me because I had a pretty traumatic delivery with DS. But I did read somewhere that there was a big difference in babies delievered at 38 weeks compared to 39 weeks. If there was a choice, and baby decides to stay in there, the closer to 40 weeks, the better!

My Drs would do 10 days prior to due date. I also had a big 2nd baby and didn't think I would make it to my c-section date...I did. I also had DD#1 at 35 weeks

Re: Those who are having or have had scheduled c-sections...

there have been a few studies done recently that show that babies born after 39 weeks have fewer instances of breathing issues. they are just more developed at that time (although technically they are full term at 37 weeks).

i was scheduled for 39 weeks 4 days. i had zero contractions before then.

this time around, i want to try for a VBAC - but i will not let them schedule me for a c-section anytime before my due date. if i need a C for any reason (breech, etc.) i will wait until my due date, and then if i go into labor before then, i'll just be considered an emergency C.

this is of course barring any major issues like placenta previa.

I have a C section scheduled for 37 weeks because of placenta previa...not my first choice of when to have the baby delivered. I have an amnio scheduled for the day before to check the lung maturity.

Thanks - I feel better about this now. I'll just have to see how it goes. Growth sono today at 33w, 2d has the baby at 5 lbs, 12 oz. already!! I know those are not always right on. The good thing is that the baby grew one pound since my last sono 2 weeks ago, so hopefully my last sono measurement was just a growth spurt.
