Re: The slippery slope... (re: Designer Babies)
so disgusting what else will they think of? the $$ they spent on this should have gone to actually helping people not to help play God.

This doesn't surprise me at all. This is the world we have created, society has allowed this to happen and this is the result.
ITA!!!!!!
While disgusted by it, I am not surprised. We have a society that wants "perfection" in everything. even just looking at a statistic such as NINETY percent of Down's Syndrome babies are aborted, this is the next logical step. people want the "perfect" child. I am not saying you can compare mental retardation to hair color, but to me it's so similar. We are HUMAN... not God, who whomever or whatever one might believe is the higher power and Creator. For some people, having babies is all about getting what I want, how I want it. To me, it's a sad, sad state of affairs. To some people, Human life has no value anymore nor holds any wonder or surprise, as it should be.

Reminds me of the movie Gattaca.
I was thinking the exact same thing and I am repulsed by this.

Re: The slippery slope... (re: Designer Babies)
I think its messed up
My DH said this morning, while he wouldn't do it, he doesn't think he should make the choice for others.....that if others choose to, that's their choice
And then we argued and apparently this is how we started our day

Re: The slippery slope... (re: Designer Babies)
To play "Devil's Advocate" (pun intended), at what point is it considered "playing God"?
For some, it's genetic manipulation, but for others, it's modern medicine. If God wanted someone to die from a disease, aren't we "playing god" by giving them medicine, surgery, etc? Aren't we all "playing God" by vaccinating our DC? Perhaps we're all on that slippery slope already.....

See, but this is why we are at the point where we are at. Once that door is opened, there is no turning back. If we as a society don't stand up for things that are crimes against humanity and "let the other folks handle it" it will all come crumbling down. I can only imagine what the future will be like for my daughter

This is what my DH said too
aren't we already playing god by allowing In Vitro...allowing abortions, plastic surgery etc?
