I was going to stop in today, but decided maybe tomorrow on my lunch break might be easier.
Glad to hear that it is nice.

Re: the new whole foods..

We never made it over there the other day but plan to go at the crack of dawn Saturday.

Does anyone know Fairway in Plainview and how the two compare to each other? Fairway was our favorite until we both stopped working in the area and it wasn't convenient anymore.

I never thought I would look forward to food shopping.

I was an avid Fairway shopper, and still go there for certain things (like Oat Milk & the yogurts) but I find their produce to be very hit & miss lately. I was going to Wild By Nature, but they are pricey. I am looking forward to going to the new WF this weekend :)

Thank you Chat Icon We shop at Wild By Nature regularly and are definitely hoping WF is cheaper! It's closer for us also.

Re: the new whole foods..

I went yesterday and it was an amazing store. It was way too packed to really see everything they had, but I think it will die down in the next couple of weeks.
I am worried Trader Joe's down the street is going to lose a lot of business. Wild by Nature is far enough away to not be affected, I think. Neither store even comes close, and I didn't think the prices were bad at all, since I am used to buying organic food. They had a lot of stuff on sale too.

Re: the new whole foods..

I love sales. Chat Icon The other thing is, they have coupons! I got two in the mail already, and they have product specific ones on their website you can print and bring with you. The one time I tried to use a coupon at Fairway, they said they didn't take internet coupons. Chat Icon

I really want to stop in, but I hate when a new store opens and there are tons of people everywhere. I was waiting a few days to let the novelty die down a bit.

Re: the new whole foods..

I'm not in Suffolk, but I love Whole Foods. I don't particularly go out of my way to eat organic foods, but I like fresh things & some times out of the ordianry things & they have excellent produce, meat & fish.

I just wanted to say, that the prices aren't terrible. My in-laws think it is, b/c htey shop in Costco, but if youshop carlfully it's not too bad. Certain produce can be expensive, but there is always something on sale.

Their 365 brand of packaged things, is usually a decent value & I think the bulk bins for grains & nuts are decent, if it doesn't gross you out.

Fish is expensive, but much better than Stop & Shop. I don't have a fish market near me, so I am not sure how it compares.

They also have an excellent selection of cheese & beer. Chat Icon

Re: the new whole foods..

i am so annoyed that it seems only whole foods, fairway and trader joes only pick certain areas to place their shops in. I wrote on Newsday's website that I find it incredibly disappointing that they choose to ignore the south shore/western suffolk areas.

I realize corporations want to make money and they place the stores in strategic areas that support a healthy income, but I know many people who would spend the extra money on healthier/gourmet selections if given the choice. I am tired of having to walk into depressing food stores that carry the same products. Plus I like a real butcher in the store - do not want to deal with a butcher that only can handle precut meats that are half frozen, veggies that have been sitting next to a dumpster in the back or accidentally frozen.

K vent is over - sorry had to get that out. Glad the store is amazing, i hope it will set a trend of demo'ing the old to build new/eco friendly buildings with health conscious choices for us all.

You can always predict where a new chain to LI will open their locations first. Western South Shore of Suffolk is never first.

It's usually:

- random western Nassau town
- eastern Nassau town like Hicksville, Plainview or Massapequa
- western North Shore Suffolk (Commack, Huntington, East Northport)
- central North Shore Suffolk (Lake Grove, South Setauket, Centereach, Smithtown)
- then the rest

Not sure where you are, but I really like Best Yet. There are two Best Yets in/near Massapequa. That is the closest to Fariway or Whole Foods I think we will ever get.

My dad was driving to Johns on Old Country Rd and I had him check them out. He switched.

ITA!! I heard the King Kullen in Lindy on Park Avenue is closing- I was hoping they'd maybe put a trader joe's or even Wild By Nature (owned by King Kullen) there....I doubt they will though.

I was also hoping they'd put a bookstore where the Liquidators place used to be.

They really need to revamp that area a bit. Chat Icon
