I agree. I hate when one person says something or writes an article and everyone jumps on the bandwagon without knowing all the facts, or in this case, reading the books to find out for themselves.

Well, as someone who read all of the books and absolutely loved them, I have to say that even if Pullman said they were about killing God, it's clear that his issue is with organized religion, and that's the most dramatic and powerful way for him to convey that. The books are based on Milton's Paradise Lost... I think they're incredible, and I can't wait to see the film.
I agree. Did you read William Blake's "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell"?
I think I might have read that... not sure, though. I may have to now.

Re: The Golden Compass
I haven't read the books, but have heard some of the controversy regarding it.
To me, it's not much different from the Harry Potter series , Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings...all are based on the original authors religious beliefs. I've read all of these series' and still go to church every Sunday and still beleive in God.
An artist defines his thoughts through his art and that is what is being done here. In this case it is about his religious beliefs.
As Preguntas said, exposure is one of the greatest ways to help a youth build knowledge and theories...keeping them away from something isn't going to expand their minds.
Lastly, I always think its funny when this is done. They probable get more people going to see the movie than originally planned just cuz they want to see what all the hype is about.
