Re: The front yard adventure...
Let me preface my post by saying I am not a great gardener but have been reading a lot about planning flower beds as we have one that looks like your before pic. So my 2cents for what its worth.. I think there are too many plants for that garden bed. Think of the mature size of the plants-Chesapeake Japanese Holly grows up to 8ft in height and 5ft in width. The rule of thumb is to leave about 1/2the width space behind so the roots don't dig into your foundation. I don't think you will be able to fit 4 of them in that space. You will have to keep trimming them to maintain that height and then the plants won't fill in to grow much. I think the green and yellow color leaves are Euonymous-and they generally grow up to 4 ft in height. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

wish i saw this sooner.... sorry for the delay.
all the planting has been done, we did go with the arrangement shown.
you are absolutely correct. Japanese Holly can grow that tall and wide, but with proper maintenance and trimming you can keep them as small as 3ft tall and 2ft wide... ive already done one trimming.
Yes Euonymous can also get fairly large if not maintained...
