the cold that wont go away - thoughts???
DD is almost 5, a month ago she got strep throat. a few weeks later, she had it again (the pediatrician thinks that it never fully went away), so another dose of anti-biotics. while on the 2nd antibiotics, she got a cold/cough. I brought her back to the pediatrician to make sure nothing was going on in her chest, she got the all clear. She finished the 2nd dose of antibiotics on Saturday.
She is still runny and has a cold, and now her temp is 99.8. I know it's not technically a fever, but still...
how would you proceed
- just wait it out
- bring her back to the pediatrician ASAP

Poor baby :( I'd closely watch the runny nose, because it could turn into an ear infection. I would ask the ped, if he/she would be ok to give a drop of benadryl to dry up the mucus. Bendaryl dosage is by weight, and some peds are ok with giving it.

Yeah we went through similar...
And this cough and runny nose is just lingering.
He has been checked out and is OK - just has to wait this out...
So, we were given the go ahead to do benedryl at night before bed because it will dry him up, run the vaporizer all the time and very heavy at night, give him Zarbees in the morning and in the evening for the cough (it's natural - made with honey), and then Motrin if he is uncomfortable or in pain but I have not had to give him that.
The vapo-rub goes a long way on his chest at night and then I aspirate him and use the saline drops as much as possible to clear out the nose.
It sucks, in plain English.

Try some natural ways to relieve symptoms and just watch it closely.
Nebulizer with saline
Steam the bathroom
humidifier
saline spray if congested
make sure to give your multivitamins
elderberry
probiotics

Plus I would avoid sugar (lowers immune function) and dairy (some believe mucus producing/inflammatory).

Strep throat is bacterial. May have been resistant to the first antibiotic...
Current drippy, runny nose state is likely viral (only treatment is time).
It's been a tough year with lots of colds going around.
I've strictly enforced purell and stopped play dates with kids that are "getting over something". That's helped (but not 100% as DS is in school).
