the beach- does anyone else just not get it?
I don't like to go to the beach in the summer. I never wish I was at the beach. I hate being out in the hot sun all day. I hate sand in every crevice of my body. I hate going in the water and getting seaweed in my toes. I hate the crowds.
I like going to the beach on a warm spring or fall day, when I can take my shoes off and walk along the water's edge without stepping on people.
Am I the only one?

I LOVE swimming in the ocean.
I have no particular fondness for sand or people, but the ocean is a special place to me.
it's worth all of the other inconvenience to me.

I'm not a fan of Jones Beach, just b/c of the walk to get there, the crowds, packing everything that you might need etc.
Robert Moses is a nice experience though. But the North Shore beaches are great for a little beach time and then getting out of there.

When you put it that way, no. 
I am not much for the beach either. I think it comes from going with my father from dawn til dusk getting all sunburned and such.
Now, I am a big fan of sitting by the pool

i grew up in southern california. the beach was in my backyard (almost literally). i don't care for it.
i don't understand what people like about it, especially in the peak of the summer. not my thing. i would rather be in a hammock in the shade by a lake... now, that's heaven

I HATE it. Give me a pool with a raft, the ability to find shade, and a pina colada and I'm happy.

One of the many reasons I never venture to the beach in the summer. I can't stand the crowds...I love the sand & the sun but I would much rather be floating in a pool....

just outside of los angeles... in between los angeles and long beach.
small town... Bell. right next to Huntington Park, and Downey.

We usually only go at night, after the crowds are gone and it has cooled down. We're not sunbathers or ocean swimmers, just enjoy the scenery and such, plus the kids love it.

I love getting to the beach (Tobay) around 3-4pm.
The crowds are leaving, the sun is beginning to set, it's just beautiful.

right there with ya. i HATE being hot , can't stand it.
DH and i went to jamaica for our HM (he really wanted tropical), and to be honest the only time we were in the ocean was during a catamaran cruise and we got to jump off the boat into some calm clean water. otherwise, i was by the pool or laying in the air conditioning in our room. 
i can't stand beaches--especially NY ones, they are overcrowded and dirty.

ITA with you. I will NOT go into the water here in NY. Once you go to the Caribbean, it is hard to come here and swim-yuck!!!!!

Wow, sounds like you don't like the beach!
I actually love it. I bring my jumbo blanket, umbrella for shade when I need it, drinks and food, my comfy chair and I am set! I love walking barefoot in the sand, instant pumice!
I love to swim in any water, but nothing beats the ocean, it has healing properties if you ask me. Of course I'll take the Carribean over Jones, but I don't go to Jones, I go to Lido, much quieter.
DH isn't a beach fan, I don't get it.

I prefer NY beaches. Tobay and West Hampton are beautiful!
I don't think many beaches hold a candle to them.
