The Affair
It’s finally back! Have to say I was a little disappointed with episode 1 though - I found it boring (except for the very last scene... though I assmume that scene is from Helen’s anxiety and not real...).
Anyone watching? I’ve only seen episode 1 so far but will definitely be watching the whole season.
Oh and I’m curious how Helen’s new neighbor will be involved in the show.

I watched it early on the showtime app b/c I couldn't wait. It was ok, better then last season so far. I couldn't stand last season.
The definitely setting the scene for the neighbor to be involved. Maybe with Vic?? Idk, maybe b/c I don't see how Vic is with Helen.

I used to watch but abandoned it last season because I thought it was terrible. I didn’t realize it came back.
You guys thought the first episode was good? Maybe I’ll try to get back into it.

I also didn’t like last season. Honestly I feel like season 1 was so great and then it slowly declined. Hoping this season is better!
I didn’t really like episode 1... but am still optimistic lol

Season 1 was SOOOOO good!!
Last night's episode was ok, had a different feel since they aren't in NY now. So we'll see how the season goes.

Seasons 1 and 2 were it for me. Season 3 was awful and so far season 4 isn't great. I just don't like how they are pulling at any storyline they can. It almost feels like they've read every best selling book and now are trying to make it into a show.

I loved it when it first started but it got a bit silly and annoying

I guess I am not well versed in immigration law, but I thought if you marry an American citizen you can become a citizen yourself?
The new guy Allison is dating seems very shady. I wish Cole would have warned Allison about him and the fact that he is still married...

Yeah, Ben seemed nice at first, but the stuff he was saying in AA makes me wonder if he's involved in Alison's disappearance. Cole should text her after he leaves to tell her Ben's married.
I know Helen's bf has cancer, but I'm not a fan of his. He's always on this side of being mean. I can't believe Helen would agree to have a baby with him when he might not be there when the baby is born - and to also tie her to his nasty mom for the rest of her life. I'd pull a soap opera move and take birth control secretly.
Not sure about being an American citizen. Hard to tell in Trump's world b/c I hear stories of people still being deported in her situation. Stupid that she thinks it's perfectly ok to ask Alison to "on paper" give up her rights and that she's mad that Cole won't ask her.

Yes I thought the same thing. If I knew I were dying I would not choose to bring another child into this world that would grow up without his/her parent. But I guess that's just me. And yes, that would tie her to his mom (who hates her) for life.

I was also bored by the last episode. It’s a shame because I used to really love this show. I’m torn on Ben - can’t decide if I trust him or not. And still curious what role Helen’s neighbor will play, if any. I’m finding that I don’t really like any of the characters anymore which is making it hard to enjoy.

Except for Cole, I really can't stand anyone else this season. I don't like the way the show is split between Long Island and CA, I think it's really changed the dynamic of the show. It's like watching 4 separate stories that have almost nothing to do with each other. I miss differing points of view and cohesive story lines.

I am too lazy to go back but someone on this thread called it with the birth control! Good for her for not taking the shots. And she doesn't know what the viewers know - that he is doing this for his parents. Although she might guess it.
And all of his savings and life insurance go to his parents even though he is in a committed relationship and trying to conceive a child that he won't even be around to financially support? That's cruel and irresponsible.
And Cole? Ugh. So disappointed in him. I suppose it's the right thing to do to let Luisa go and find someone who will truly love her but he swallows this exorcism cr*p and sleeps with the cute thing at his hotel or brothel or whatever it is?
If this show titled its episodes this one would be "Men Are Dogs."
If the writers continue to go in this direction they'll lose me.

I can’t believe Helen told him she wasn’t taking the shots. She knows he’s going to die soon - just let him live not hating her. His mom is so hateful - good for Helen for not wanting to be tied to her. I guess we now know the point of the neighbor.
The Cole story was weird. I guess when he gets back is when she disappears. (Shrug) At least he got to see a different side to his dad, but also sad knowing that his mom stayed when she knew he was in love with someone else.

I binged this series in the last 3 weeks or so, I never watched it prior. So I’ve definriely noticed the show going downhill but I’m committed. To Cole

I was thinking this too.
I found this episode a little ridiculous - cole drives to CA and immediately gets lucky enough to find the art gallery and his dads lover - who recognizes him as soon as she lays eyes on him. I know it’s television and all, but still too far fetched. Then the “exorcism” and random sex worker (?) lol. IDK just seemed crazy to me. At least this episode kept me entertained though - I was getting so bored with the previous ones. I’m curious now about what’s coming next with coles breakup and stuff.
