So death wishes now are ok for the president elect when it was horrific when it was on a presidential candidate?

I see... (not really)

Duh! Because it's Trump! Anything that would have been considered inappropriate for any other president-elect is allowed because it's him. Apparently there's exceptions to every rule. Chat Icon

Is he not the exception to the rule? No one should wish death on him (heaven forbid we deal with Pence! ouch!)

I hope people protest where ever his tour takes him. His ego has no boundaries. What on earth have we done? This country should feel real shame!

Wouldn't it be wonderful thou if instead of protesting people used that time and energy to volunteer at a local shelter or boys and girls club? Just imagine how much could be accomplished. I'm not much for protesting. I rarely think it gets the point across that was intended to be delivered.

It's very sad how much disdain there is for protesting. How do people think women got the right to vote?

Protesting is just one form of social action. Nobody does it 24/7. I have no statistics, but I would be willing to bet that people who protest have a higher rate of volunteerism than people who do not. They're more likely to have causes that energize them enough to want to do something.

That's just anecdotal, though, based on my circle.Chat Icon

Agree. Dont people realize what MLKs movement was about!?

No, people don't. They think it was all peaceful and Kumbaya.

But in these cases you are all talking about a protest that could lead to positive change. What is this protest going to change? Trump knows half of America hates him and is unhappy he is going to be president. If you could explain to me what the point of the protest is and what it hopes to accomplish that will better us as a nation maybe I could jump on board. I just don't see THIS protest as anything worthwhile.

He has been surrounded by "yes men" his whole life, and he believes that everyone adores him, and everything he does is amazing.
The hopes are that if he can visibly see people actively angry at him, he may change some of his plans, policies, rhetoric, etc, and realize that more than half of the country didn't vote for him, and he needs to address the country as a whole, and not just his buddies.
He's a visual person. If he doesn't see it, it doesn't exist. He needs to be constantly reminded that the rest of the country exists.
It may not work, but it's worth a shot.

Many leaders, who actually cared about all of their constituents, have changed policy based on protests, letters, calls, etc.

Yes. He needs to know that we are watching him, and lots of people already find many of his ideas unacceptable.

Not to mention it gets the attention of other legislators who can enact change at the local or state level.

Eliza - This may be the only thing it does. Trump even stated on the 60 minute interviews that he believes a lot of the protesters are paid protesters. I don't think it will do anything to change how he feels about things.

Yeah. What a convenient way to delegitimize the message of the protesters.

And yes, the point of protesting IMO is to show we will not stand idly by while our people's rights are stripped and our planet is destroyed while Donnie and his fossil fuel company friends get rich. A Muslim registry?? A neo nazi White House advisor?? An unqualified conflict of interest ridden education secretary?? Climate change denial?? Oh my god-- there is so much to protest!!!!!!!!!! Take your pick, and he hasn't even started yet!

I can't even believe that you think this is an ok comment. So much for the "tolerant" "love Trumps hate" left.

Not for nothing, but It's not, and regardless of how much I didn't like Hillary I would never wish harm or make a post like that... Or a post like this! To wish harm on anyone is horrible enough but especially while going under the billboard of "love trumps hate" and "tolerance" it's mind boggling. I also didn't see it happen on this board regarding HRC, because it probably didn't happen here. If it did, I would have asked the same question of that person. BUT 50 other people would've jumped on it first because they love her and because it isn't right.

But I guest the answer from you,(even though you are not the commenter), is that it's ok and you defend or excuse it , because random nutjobs somewhere ,(not on this board), screamed to hurt HRC. Makes zero sense and is very hypocritical. Chat Icon

Nope, I was just wondering where you stood on that because his supporters ignore some of the despicable things that occured at his rallies. It didn't happen here but it was brought up, and his supporters didn't denounce it. I just find it odd that this particular comment would get someone rattled because of its intolerance, but when fellow LIF posters express fear of discrimination they are met with either silence or dismissal of their fears from his supporters. Where's the outrage there? I can't speak for Hofstra, but I took her comment as a bit tongue in cheek. I'd say the same if someone says they hope HRC gets hit by a bus on her way to a recount. I find an angry mob of people chanting to kill someone far worse.

From what's been proven, the violence at rallies was usually caused by those homeless and mentally ill who were paid $1500 per person via those associated with the DNC to cause it.

But I guess your ok with an "eye for an eye" since people said mean, nasty things to/or about HRC wishing her harm.

If anyone said anything like that about Obama, this board would be in an uproar. And rightfully so!

Yes, it was meant to be tongue in cheek which is why I rolled my eyes at the above posters comment. Of course I don't wish anyone ACTUALLY gets hit by a bus. I would just like him to go away.

Oh because I should know that a comment like that on a public message board is "tongue in cheek"? Yes, please keep blaming others for your inappropriate comments.

Are you for real??? Chat Icon

I know really. Where's the outrage when Dump said he's actually literally going to KILL the families of suspected terrorists??!! Just sick. Your comment was totally tongue in cheek, obviously. I also want him to just go AWAY. And I am not picky about how that happens. (Tongue is in cheek people, calm down).

Honestly, I hope he gets hit by a bus on his "Thank You Tour". He NEEDS to go away!!!

I can't even believe that you think this is an ok comment. So much for the "tolerant" "love Trumps hate" left.

Not for nothing, but I recall months of chants to "kill the b!tch" from the right... How is that ok? Chat Icon

Are you? Please don't try to turn this around on me just because I called you out on a ridiculous, inappropriate comment you made.

Again, are you for real?? You "called me out" on absolutely nothing. It wasn't inappropriate in the least so you might want to toughen up buttercup if some passing NOT SERIOUS comment gets your panties this much in a bunch. Maybe you should consider staying off of public forums. Clearly, you're WAY too sensitive.

This back and forth is getting old so why don't you go cry in a corner about my saying Trump should be hit by a bus and let's end this. You couldn't be more ridiculous with all of this.

Good grief. Chat Icon Chat Icon

You are hysterical! It wasn't "absolutely nothing" . It was wrong and if you read through the comments I wasn't the only one who felt that way. So stop deflecting from your bad behavior. But I guess since I don't post much you want to go at me because I asked you if a comment like that is ok. Guess what, the answer is It's not! It's what I thought that LIF normally preaches against, (but only if it's Obama, or HRC I guess).

Trust me, I don't need to "toughen up, buttercup!" I also definitely don't need to go cry in a corner. I'll save that for you, since you are the one who can't get past that Trump won... I'm just calling you out on the hypocrisy that you preach all about. You know all the mean, bad things that Trump said.. Love trumps hate, blah blah blah...But you saying that you hope he gets harmed is ok, because that's "Tongue in cheek"? It's a horrible thing to say about anyone but you think it's ok because as others previously pointed out it's about Trump. You are proving the point and hypocrisy very clearly.

So death wishes now are ok for the president elect when it was horrific when it was on a presidential candidate?

I see... (not really)
Chat Icon

Duh! Because it's Trump! Anything that would have been considered inappropriate for any other president-elect is allowed because it's him. Apparently there's exceptions to every rule. Chat Icon
