Did they do a good job of differentiating responsible breeders from puppy mill breeders? I was hoping they did a good job of this, since I know Oprah has some beautiful purebreds.

She made several points, and the mill rescue guy as well as the rep from the humane society stated that there are responsible breeders and that they interview the potential owners and do home visits,e tc. He also pointed out that they will always take a dog back if the owner cannot keep it to make sure the dogs do not end up in the shelters.

Oprah did, however, vow never to use a breeder again now that she has seen that shelter dogs are a great option.

I kind of feel bad for responsible breeders. They kind of made it sound like you should only get a shelter dog, and buying a pure breed is a last resort. I hope all those pets stores go out of business!! Anyone ever go out to Manorville to Sportsman kennel. They told me they breed all those dogs on site. They must have 25 different pure breed dogs puppy's.

They are not responsible breeders, they are brokers in addition to BYBs.

No I repeat NO responsible breeder breeds 25 different breeds of dog. None.

Honestly the way the crisis of animal abuse is going to in this country many pure breds can be found in shelters. I think that was the point they were trying to make. Chat Icon

A responsible breeder would not have that many puppies.. I wouldn't go there

You miss understood me! I was stating how disgusting that place is and how they lie about breeding dogs. I know how bad these places are.
I was just trying to say that it is not bad to buy a dog from a responsible breeder that loves what they do and cares about the dogs.

Sportsmans is not a breeder. They're brokers who try to pass themselves off as breeders.

My husband had the misfortune of dealing with them. They're HORRIBLE people.
