Temping is confusing!

Please help!!
I am on CD 7. I started temping CD1 and my temp was 97.49 it stayed around there until yesterday when it dropped to 97.33 and then today went up to 97.58. I think a drop and then a raise is supposed to indicate O but im only on CD7.

Do I have this all wrong?

TIA!

Re: Temping is confusing!

See what happens the next few days, if that is a lone high temp it doesn't mean anything, but if it stays up you may have ovulated early . Remember, with themping we are looking at trends and patterns.

Re: Temping is confusing!

thats totally normal!!! youre looking for patterns that will appear after temping for awhile. youll have rises and dips throughout - you'll see a major rise in temperature (.4 or higher) to indicate ovulation.

Thank you!! I am not really sure what I'm looking for...just sticking the thermometer in my mouth ever morning and recording it on FF.

Do you know if on FF if a coverline will appear or when it does? Also will it tell me when I O'ed or do I have to figure it out?

Thank you!!

Re: Temping is confusing!

after a few days (i believe 3) of a sustained high temp (.4 higher than the majority), FF will mark ovulation. i forgot your other questions so im going to go back to look at your post then respond again Chat Icon

ETA:
yes, FF puts a coverline on your chart. you'll prob be able to see your ovulation pattern before FF marks it, as they wait 3 days before marking it. if your temp goes up after a few days of EWCM, you prob ovulated!

Re: Temping is confusing!

also, try to put the thermometer in the same spot of your mouth each morning. when i first charted, i didnt know to do that and my temps were a lot more erratic. our mouths have "hot spots" and the temp can be different in diff areas.

Thank you!! This helped a lot! I usually put it in the same spot or at least I try. I put it in when DH's alarm goes off at 5:50am so I try as much as I can to keep it in one spot when I'm half asleep!

Those temps are pretty consistent. You may not see much of a dip in your temp prior to O'ing, but you should see a big jump (probably in the 98+ degree range) right around/after you O. Also, if you're not taking your temp at the exact same time each day, there could be a variation in temps.

Re: Temping is confusing!

They sound normal.. When I was temping, i didnt start until cd 5 or 6. temps tend to be on the high side when you have AF.

Re: Temping is confusing!

I am finding that TTC is all about waiting and never wanting to....which is the most annoying thing I think I have ever experienced in my life.

This was my first month charting my temp and I can't tell you how many times I told DH this was happening or that was happening, only to find out the next day I was way off because I read something new or my temp changed in a way I thought it wouldn't. It takes days to see anything for sure including ovulation. One high temp is not the indicator. Your cycle (if it's normal) should be divided in half, the first part being lower temps and the second part being higher temps. Before saying or thinking anything is definite, wait to see how it actually plays out.
