Telling the grandparents

when you get pg, how will you tell the grandparents? Any ideas? I am NOT pg yet, but I am already thinking of how we can tell our parents (it will be the first grandchild on both sides)!!

I'll probably wait until 4 months minimum, and tell them over the phone.

Re: Telling the grandparents

We found out we were pregnant with DS on Valentines Day so we brought over "gifts" to both of our parents. They were little gift bags filled with bottles, rattles, and all things baby. They knew right away! Chat Icon

Re: Telling the grandparents

Well all my grandparents are deceased as well as my husbands.

As for my parents, I plan on making a recording on my camcorder of my first ultra sound. I will send it to my BFF who lives close by my parents. She will go to their house for dinner which she does sometimes and say she has a surprise for them. She will play the dvd and tell her congrats!

I will be on the phone waiting. My mom will freak. She has no idea we are TTC, and her last grandchild was born 10 years ago.

I am not telling anyone but the ladies here and my BFF that I am pregnant till my 3rd month, so this will surprise my mom even more that she does not have to wait a full 9 months.

My parents live in Seattle (they retired there), so I really do not have a choice on the long distance telling them. Each person has different circumstances. Chat Icon

yeah i underatand the long distance thing; i didnt know if "when" was actually far away from her parents or not... but waiting 4 months i feel like is so long and wouldnt they be upset that they missed such a big part of the pregnancy? i am so close to my parents and my whole family so it would be so hard for me to not tell anyone, especially my parents, for 4 months..

I am very close with my mother, BUT I also deal with tragedy very privately. If I were to miscarry in my first trimester, I think I would rather go through that without my families knowledge. I feel like it is one less heart to break. I would not wait 4 months but I would wait till 12 weeks.

That is such a sweet idea for those of us who live OOS! Another idea of mine was to frame the first sono photo in an I love my Grandparents Frame.

Re: Telling the grandparents

I love the picture frame idea! I have a feeling that when I see a BFP, my mom will be the second person I'd tell immediately! I'd love to hold it in and try to do it in a surprise sort of a way...we'll see how it happens when that opportunity presents itself to us.

Re: Telling the grandparents

we told them on valentines day a few days after we found out. Originally i said i wanted to wait, but u know..there our parents. and god forbid something should go wrong, we would need their support.

so we found these onesies at walmart that said "what happens at grandmas stays at grandmas." (i couldnt find anything with both grandma and grandpa for my parents) and wrapped it in a little box.

my mother started screaming and my dad was like what the hell?? and MIL started screaming "Im having a baby!"

DH was like no...Diana is having a baby..LOL

We discussed doing this too. DH's parents are OOS, so I like the idea of them opening their mail and getting a shocked phone call.

I really like the picture frame idea also!! My MIL would LOVE that. She would probably keep it forever. As far as my own parents, I think I would just tell them, in person. They arent really the types that go for fun, silly suprises Chat Icon
