Telling my BFF

I'm only 8 weeks and DH and I have decided to wait until after our NT scan to make our BIG announcement. I did however tell my parents since this is their very 1st grandchild and DH and I tried for so long, I burst!

I'm feeling sort of guilty for not telling my BF yet although my reason is justified....she can't be trusted. It may never get back to me that she spread the news but, in my gut I know that she will tell people.

She told me right away when she got her 3 BFP's and her SIL didn't tell her until 12 weeks and she was very disappointed and hurt and I don't want to make her feel that way if I wait.

Don't tell her if you don't want people knowing. It is your 1st baby and i know i wanted to be the one to tell people.

But don't get annoyed at her when you hear she told people if you do tell her.

Re: Telling my BFF

I was in a very similar situation. After doing IVF my DH and I decided to wait until after the 1st tri to tell friends, although we did tell our family b/c they knew about our IF struggles. When I told my BFF she was very upset with me, especially after telling me literally after she POAS. Instead of getting super excited for me, she made it about her. I guess you live and learn and have to do what is best for you!!! Congrats!!!

Re: Telling my BFF

I have been in hiding since my BFP --- we don't want people to find out yet.

We haven't even told our parents -- which is really hard for me --- but we want to make it past the 12 week mark before telling people.

My DH told one person, and I told 1 person.

His parents have big mouths and we want to keep it a secret in case it doesn't stick -- and with my parents we don't want them to worry about me.

This is our 2nd pregnancy but the1st ended in miscarriage and the entire world knew we were preggo.... this is why we want to keep it to ourselves as much as possible just in case.

I would do what feels right for you -- if she is your bff she will understand!

Re: Telling my BFF

we didn't tell BIL until 14 weeks because of the same reason.. we can't trust his wife.. she'll let it slip and pull an oppsie. They told us right way with their BFP, and my in-laws were not at thrilled with us when we told both parents and my sibling about our BFP and withheld it from them.

They knew why, but they didn't want to accept it. And lo and behold, my cousins from across the pond, messaged me randomly on facebook the day after we told them.. coincidence, I think not.

I would only announce it when you are comfortable, and if anything she could be your first friend that you announce to.. Chat Icon

If you don't feel comfortable, then don't tell. It KILLED me not to tell my BFFs until I was much further along. However, I had a m/c in May and couldn't handle having to tell everyone again if something went bad this time again. You guys tried for so long that I think anyone can understand the fear accompanied with that. Do what's good for you!Chat Icon

Re: Telling my BFF

I waited to tell my BF too. She was dating my cousin (now married) and I didn't want her slipping at her bridal shower with my entire family present. She sucks at secrets though. Chat Icon

Re: Telling my BFF

Please don't feel guilty.

This is YOUR pregnancy and it's YOUR decision when to tell people.
It was you and DH who Chat Icon! NOT you, DH and BF!

If BF wanted to tell you about her BFP's right away that was her prerogative.

Tell when the time is right for you and DH. Your BF will get over it Chat Icon

Re: Telling my BFF

You shouldn't feel compelled to tell someone because of their feelings. This is your pregnancy, and you do things the way you want to. Don't feel guilty or badly.
