Teachers FCU debit card numbers have been compromised - possibly other CUs too

Just got a letter today from Teachers saying a third party that they use had a bunch of Teachers debit card numbers *may* have been compromised.

So if your card was one on the list that got compromised, you will probably get a letter too. They say they are going to send out a new debit card which will have a new debit EDIT: card number.

So if you have any sort of auto-debits on that card, you will need to change them with your payees. But they also said the existing cards that were compromised will still work until you get your replacement card.

They claim the problem wasn't their fault, and I believe them because I belong to another CU that's out of state and I got a similar letter from them. Aparently this third party really efffffed up and probably screwed a bunch of CUs.

Bleh. Well no big deal, we are not responsible for fradulent transactions. But it would be annoying if I had money just taken out of my checking account.

I just figured people would want to know. Watch your mail if you belong to a credit union.

Thanks for the heads up. Just got the letter today, as well. Teachers is usually ontop of this stuff I've found.

I haven't received a letter from Teachers, but I did receive a letter from Peoples Alliance.

It is only some people. My DH received the letter and I called them to see when the card will be cut ff. They said not until 2/24 but that he could go now to any TFCU and get a new card. I asked them about my card and they said no just his. It was compromised in some store. The last time this happned to me it was because of a problem with BJs.

Nassau Financial FCU had compromised cards as well.

Oh come on...I just had this when I was in florida...Here we go again!
I am gonna have lots of plastic with TFCU on top...

we got a letter to. this isn't the first time though, this seems to happen often with TFCU. I also bank with wamu now chase, and I have never had this happen.

The last time this happened though they canceled our debit cards WITHOUT notice and we were out, it was really annoying. the waitress came back to the table and told us our cards were reported stolen and she needed to see ID

At least this time they are not canceling cards until you get the new one (which you can get one the same day if you stop in any branch) or wait for the new one to come in the mail within 2 weeks, with a new pin code

My sister says this happens often with TFCU. She said it's really annoying!

I've been with TFCU for over 6 years now and this is the second time it's happened. We both got letters yesterday.
I'd rather this than my card be compromised and me not informed (this happened when I was with North Fork many years ago).

Last time it was Marshall's, would love to know who it is this time.

I got that letter yesterday too. It was just for my card not DH's

DH and I both got this letter too...annoying, but like pp said, I'd rather know they are on top of it, then not!
