Re: Taxes

How hard is it to use the turbo tax software?

We used someone out in Northport. Just wondering if there was someone closer to levittown that would be able to get us a better return than we got last year. He got us a good amount, but now with buying a house, we should get a lot more.
Thanks,
Scott

Re: Taxes

We use Turbo Tax and it's just as good as any accountant unless you have very complicated taxes - meaning you have a S Corp, PSC, Sole Prop. - then I would use an accountant that is good in corp tax but for staight up W2 with a home - Turbo Tax is very good.

ETA: The software is VERY easy to use and very through.

We had used turbo tax before. I think it was pretty easy, but I think there was something with DH retirement that we kept doing wrong b/c we kept getting letters each year that we owed back something months later.

And we thought last year we'd get a lot more back b/c of the house - I don't remember when you bought yours, but we closed in September 2004 and it didn't seem to make much difference last year. We're hoping this year with a full year of taxes and interest behind us it'll be a lot better!! Chat Icon

Is it really that helpful? I do it myself without the software & DH suggested aybe buying it, but I don't see what difference it would make.

Re: Taxes

I do my taxes myself. I also do my boyfriend's, sister's, and parent's.

I also use Turbo Tax. It makes doing them much easier. I believe anyone can basically do it themselves and use TurboTax unless you have really complicated taxes and situations.

I think H&R offers classes in the fall yearly. Not too sure though.

Re: Taxes

I always did my own until I got married, then with DH's stuff it got complicated. We use a friend of his, because he used to use Gillman & Cioccia and the guy there screwed up more than one year and was always trying to $uck him into investing with them.

I am also a little hesitant to use H&R Block after I met a college student who told me she was working there, doing people's return when she was in high school. I know she was very bright, but if I am paying to get them done, I am expecting someone a bit more experienced.

this is a man who hates to spend money and takes 20 minutes to type a three-sentence email....so it MUST be easy and useful!

Re: Taxes

I did my taxes, DH's (when he was my FH) and my parents all online last year. Last year I got a Turbo Tax code online but that only allowed me to do one return and I did the other two through American Express online. I don't think Amex offers financail services anymore, so I may just buy the Turbo Tax software this year.

Can I use the software for more than one return?
